Satellite Systems Engineer – Relocation to Budapest

Our client is a fast-growing European company in the defense and space sector, acting as a prime contractor for both national and commercial satellite programs. They are developing a fully integrated space capability, encompassing satellite design and production, ground operations, data management, and end-to-end service delivery. Headquartered in Budapest, the company operates as part of a major publicly listed telecommunications group and collaborates with leading international space agencies, including ESA, NASA, JAXA, and DLR.
About the Role
In this role you will act as the technical authority overseeing complex satellite programs, including both telecommunications and Earth observation missions. You will be responsible for ensuring that external suppliers and partners deliver systems that meet requirements and comply with ECSS standards.
This is a senior individual contributor position without direct reports initially. You will focus on system-level integration of satellites and ground segments, working closely with internal stakeholders, subsidiaries, and international partners.
Responsibilities:
· Provide technical oversight for telecommunications (GEO) and Earth observation (LEO) satellite programs.
· Review supplier technical data packages for both spacecraft and ground segments.
· Ensure compliance with ECSS standards and system-level requirements.
· Contribute to system requirements reviews (SRR) and future platform customizations.
· Supervise integration of delivered systems, focusing on validation rather than hands-on development.
· Act as the independent technical authority ensuring quality and compliance across all program elements.
· Interface with internal subsidiaries, external contractors, and government stakeholders to align technical execution.
Requirements:
· MUST: 10+ years of experience in space systems engineering, including work on multi-contractor satellite programs.
· MUST: Proven expertise in system-level integration of telecom and Earth observation satellites.
· MUST: Hands-on experience with both GEO and LEO satellite platforms.
· MUST: Knowledge of ECSS standards and ability to apply them in supplier oversight.
· MUST: Strong understanding of satellite and ground segment architectures, TT&C, payload operations, data downlink, and service chains.
· MUST: Master’s or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
· Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Eclipse, Windchill, or equivalent).
· Ability to work autonomously and influence system-level decisions.
· Eligibility to obtain security clearance (prior clearance not required).
