HX5 is currently seeking a Junior System Administrator to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform system administration duties on Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) suite of applications.
- Support systems engineering, maintenance, and operations of cyber capabilities
- Assist in troubleshooting of hardware, software, and capability of the DCO suite of applications.
- Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing operability.
- Comply with organization systems administration standard operating procedures.
- Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies.
- Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
- Manage system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
- Monitor and maintain system/server configuration.
- Perform repairs on faulty system/server hardware.
- Troubleshoot hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
- Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers.
- Patch network vulnerabilities to ensure information is safeguarded against outside parties.

- Skill in correcting physical and technical problems that impact system/server performance.
- Skill in monitoring and optimizing system/server performance.

- Knowledge of systems administration concepts.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies and virtual machine development and maintenance.
- Knowledge of organizational information technology (IT) user security policies (e.g., account creation, password rules, access control).
- Knowledge of basic system administration, network, and operating system hardening techniques.
- Knowledge of national and international laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cybersecurity.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
- Knowledge of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
- Knowledge of specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses.
- Knowledge of common network tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, nslookup).
- Knowledge of cloud computing service models Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
- Knowledge of cloud computing deployment models in private, public, and hybrid environments and the difference between on-premises and off-premises environments.
- Be willing to support troubleshooting for shift workers in a 24x7 operational environment and respond quickly to emergencies as needed.
- Be willing to support a rotating on-call schedule.
- Be able to multi-task and prioritize various projects and assignments in a dynamic work environment to meet scheduled/ unscheduled customer requests.
Education and Experience:
- Must have 2, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience
- May be reduced with completion of advanced education
- Must have 6 months, or more, of directly related experience
- Must have a DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification with Continuing Education (CE) - (CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP)
- Must have, or obtain, an active DoD 8570.01-M CSSP Infrastructure Support certification with Continuing Education (CE
- (CEH, CySA+, GICSP, SSCP, CHFI, CFR, Cloud+, CND)
- Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Must be able to obtain an active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
- Have experience with Linux system administration in a DoD environment
- Have Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) experience
- Have experience with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) is highly desirable.
- Have Server Management experience, including deployment, backups, snapshots
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain the required level clearance by date of hire.
