Job Overview And Responsibilities

This position manages the engineering and administration of all on-prem SQL instances and databases including the security, availability, performance, and data protection for those databases. This position manages the off-hours patching and deployments for all Tier 1 thru Tier 5 SQL and Couchbase databases. Additionally, this position is responsible for AWS cloud migrations, support, and deployments.

  • Off-hours and meetings support for all Tier1 – Tier5 SQL Databases and Instances.
  • Create and deploy database servers and databases in DEV/TEST/PROD environments.
  • Work with cross-teams of Server and storage teams to build database platforms.
  • Install, configure, and maintain DBMS product software on the database.
  • Assist in the consultation of application development teams on DBMS product technical issues and techniques.
  • Implement monitoring procedures to maximize the availability and performance of the database, while meeting defined SLAs.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve database problems.
  • Identify, define and implement database backup/recovery and security strategies.
  • Install and support of DBMS (Database Management Systems) software and tools.
  • Perform various database activities which include monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting, with appropriate supervision, if required.
  • Review deployment for all SQL database changes and follow the change management process.
  • Review and provide feedback on all SQL code updates.
  • Patching of all SQL Server and upgrade database to latest version on SQL and AWS
  • Conduct database patching including any troubleshooting and validation post patching
  • Project management and engagements for database migration
  • Provide diagnoses for performance issues
  • Tables and index reviews
  • Data Purging and job scheduling
  • Data migrations between on prem to cloud
  • AWS cloud DB production support and deployments

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
  • 1-year AWS hands-on experience with Aroura MySQL/PostgreSQL RDS
  • 4 years of Database Administration experience in SQL Server
  • Proficient in SQL development and administration disciplines with current hands-on experience with the latest SQL Server releases including SQL 2022/2019.
  • Strong background and experience with all HA and DR capabilities of Microsoft SQL Server including Always-On, Mirroring, Log Shipping, and Clustering with a practical understanding of other Infrastructure HA/DC capabilities
  • Leverage metrics to drive capacity planning and trending to proactively identify potential problems and mitigate before they result in customer impact
  • Understand the place of automation and standardization when delivering stable, maintainable, and performant database services at scale
  • Perform platform, database, and query optimization
  • Use of tools like Dynatrace, IDERA, RedGate, AppD, Service Now
  • Independent thinker and Team player with the willingness to learn and work on stretch responsibilities.
  • PowerShell and scripting skills required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship
  • Must be fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline / Masters Degree preferred.
  • Microsoft SQL Server or AWS certification.
  • 7 years DBA with SQL and AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS native databases, computing, storage, monitoring technologies, and continuous integration pipelines.
  • Experience implementing automation of Microsoft SQL Server deployment and maintenance, and support activities preferred
  • Collaborate both vertically and horizontally to evolve overall database services and technology strategies.
  • Experience supporting SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS.
  • Very large Database (10+ TB) experience preferred.
  • Experience with PowerShell or other scripting languages a plus.
  • Experience with PCI, SOX, and SQL Auditing a plus.
