About the Role

We are looking for a technically proficient Junior Game Programmer to join the Realityjam studio team as an apprentice, contributing to the development of 5th Dimension. This is a fully remote, paid apprenticeship aligned to the Game Programmer apprenticeship standard (ST0953), offering structured learning, mentorship from senior engineers, and direct involvement in shipping a live multiplayer title.

You will work primarily in C# within Unity, contributing to gameplay systems, multiplayer logic, tooling, and engine integration across the 5th Dimension codebase. If you’re not yet at the required experience level, our Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway offers a direct, mentored route into this role — see below.

About 5th Dimension

5th Dimension is a multiplayer online game built in Unity, featuring rich world-building, interconnected systems, and a growing community of players. The project is being developed by the Realityjam studio in partnership with 5th Dimension Games Ltd.

Before applying, you are required to play the free demo on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3435630/5th_Dimension/. Applications that do not reference the demo will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain gameplay systems and features in C# within the Unity engine.

Implement and debug multiplayer functionality using Unity's networking frameworks.

Work with the tech art and design teams to integrate assets and systems into the game pipeline.

Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in line with studio standards.

Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices across the team.

Identify and resolve bugs, performance issues, and technical debt as directed.

Engage with the apprenticeship programme's learning and assessment requirements.

Essential Requirements

Minimum 2 years of documented commercial experience programming games in C# with Unity.

Demonstrable experience working within a commercial Unity development pipeline — this is mandatory.

Working knowledge of multiplayer game architecture and networking fundamentals.

Experience using version control systems such as Git or Plastic SCM within a team environment.

Right to work in the United Kingdom — applicants must hold this at the time of application.

Completion of the 5th Dimension demo on Steam prior to submitting your application.

Don’t yet meet all the requirements? You can still join the team — apply to our Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway for a direct route into this role. See below for details.

Desirable Skills

Experience with Unity Netcode for GameObjects, Mirror, or an equivalent multiplayer networking framework.

Familiarity with .NET and server-side game logic.

Experience working with Edgegap, Photon, or similar multiplayer hosting and relay infrastructure.

Understanding of performance profiling and optimisation techniques in Unity.

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or automated testing in a games context.

Remuneration & Working Hours

Base salary: £17,000 per annum.

Quarterly performance bonus: up to £5,000 per annum, giving potential annual earnings of up to £22,000.

Hours: 30 hours per week — Monday to Thursday, 10:00am to 6:00pm (GMT/BST).

Fully remote — work from anywhere in the United Kingdom.

Apprenticeship framework with structured learning, mentorship from the Realityjam studio team, and a direct pathway to a permanent role.
