Job Description

Technical Project Manager (Mid-Level)

Remote is ok

3 to 6 months project duration (working in PST)

Remote position

W2 only

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Run and Build Workstreams: Oversee both the maintenance/support stream (“Run” – e.g. bug tracking and fixes, production support) and the new development stream (“Build” – new features and enhancements) for the assigned opco’s portion of the DCx project. Ensure both workstreams are executed efficiently and align with overall project goals.
  • Lead Execution Meetings: Plan and facilitate regular project meetings (stand-ups, sprint planning, status updates) to drive progress. Clearly set agendas, document decisions, and ensure follow-up on action items. Keep all stakeholders informed of status, risks, and issues.
  • Task and Action Item Coordination: Track all tasks, deliverables, and action items using Jira and other project management tools. Ensure that team members are clear on their assignments and deadlines. Proactively follow up with individuals across development, QA, product, and other teams to close out action items and resolve blockers.
  • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration: Coordinate with diverse technical teams across the commerce tech stack – including BigCommerce development, PIM (Product Information Management) specialists, Fabric platform engineers, and ERP system teams. Align their efforts and dependencies, ensuring integrated execution across systems (e.g. ensuring BigCommerce and PIM updates are synchronized via integration platforms like Fabric).
  • Technical Facilitation: Leverage your technical background to engage in detailed discussions about feature design and problem-solving. Ask the right questions and translate functional requirements into technical action items. Drive meaningful conversations with developers and business analysts to clarify requirements for new BigCommerce features or integration changes.
  • Issue and Bug Management: Own the “Run” stream by monitoring incoming bugs or support issues related to the opco’s eCommerce platform. Triage and prioritize issues in Jira, ensure critical bugs are addressed promptly, and communicate status and resolutions to stakeholders.
  • Timeline and Deliverable Management: Work with the team to establish realistic timelines for feature development and bug fixes. Continuously monitor progress against milestones, and adjust plans as needed to meet delivery commitments.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as a key point of contact for project status for your opco. Provide clear, concise updates to project leadership and business stakeholders on progress, risks, and blockers. Escalate critical issues when necessary and propose solutions to keep the project on track.
  • Process Improvement: Encourage and contribute to process improvements in execution. This could include refining Jira workflows, improving the structure of status meetings, or better integrating “run” vs “build” workstream activities for efficiency.
  • Documentation: Ensure that project documentation, meeting notes, action item trackers, and status reports are kept up-to-date. This includes documentation of decisions, changes in scope, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Project Management Experience: Approximately 3-6 years of experience in project management or coordination roles in a software development or IT environment. Prior experience managing software development projects or workstreams (especially in a mid-level or lead role) is essential.
  • Strong Coordination & Communication: Excellent organizational skills with a proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and manage multiple moving parts. Clear and effective communicator (both written and verbal) comfortable leading meetings, documenting outcomes, and delivering status updates to various stakeholders.
  • Jira Proficiency: Hands-on experience using Jira (or similar project management/tracking tools) to create user stories/tasks, manage backlogs, track progress, and generate reports. Ability to configure dashboards, workflows, and filters in Jira to monitor project health.
  • Technical Acumen in Web/E-commerce: Solid understanding of web development concepts and eCommerce platforms. Ability to grasp technical issues and discussions – you should be comfortable talking about front-end web technologies (e.g., HTML/CSS, JavaScript) and how eCommerce features are implemented. This technical literacy enables you to effectively liaise between engineers and non-technical stakeholders and to drive discussions about BigCommerce platform functionality and integrations.
  • E-commerce & Integration Knowledge: Familiarity with BigCommerce or similar eCommerce platforms is required. Should understand how eCommerce systems interact with related technologies like PIM (Product Information Management) systems and ERPs. Awareness of integration platforms or middleware (for example, experience with something like Fabric or other API-based commerce integration tools) is important to oversee end-to-end workflows.
  • Problem-Solving & Ownership: A proactive mindset in identifying issues, risks, and roadblocks. Demonstrated ability to take ownership of problems and drive them to resolution by coordinating with the right people. Ability to balance urgency (for run/production issues) with thoroughness (for build/new feature quality).
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum or Kanban) is preferred. Comfortable with iterative development, sprint cycles, and adjusting to changing priorities.
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field is preferred. (Equivalent professional experience in technical projects can be considered in lieu of a formal degree.)
  • Preferred Background & Experience:

    • Technical Background: Previous experience as a software developer or business analyst – especially in front-end development or eCommerce – is highly advantageous. This background will help in understanding the nuances of the BigCommerce platform and in communicating effectively with development teams.
    • E-Commerce Projects: Experience working on digital commerce, website development, or online retail platform projects. Familiarity with managing projects involving eCommerce storefronts, shopping cart/checkout features, product catalogs, or integrations between eCommerce and backend systems will be a strong plus.
    • BigCommerce & Related Tech: Direct experience with BigCommerce (either implementing features or managing a BigCommerce-based project) is a plus. Experience with Product Information Management (PIM) systems (such as Perfion, Salsify, or similar) and their integration with eCommerce platforms. Knowledge of Fabric or comparable headless commerce frameworks/integration middleware is beneficial.
    • Enterprise Systems Integration: Understanding of how eCommerce platforms integrate with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or others for orders, inventory, customer data). Any experience coordinating across such integrated systems in a project environment is valuable.
    • Remote Collaboration: Experience working with distributed teams in a remote environment. Strong self-management and virtual collaboration skills to keep teams engaged and projects on track without in-person oversight.
    • Certifications (Optional): While not required, any relevant certifications (e.g., Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or PMP) or training in project management and agile practices can be a plus, demonstrating formal knowledge of project management methodologies.
