OVERVIEW
At Orion, we are seeking a Healthcare Enterprise Architect to drive modernization, develops strategic architecture POVs, and guides cross-domain implementations for a large health system.
OPPORTUNITY
6-month contract with potential extension; Fully Remote (U.S. – All Time Zones)
SALARY
$140,000 – $150,000 W2 plus benefits
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Solves complex problems across COTS systems, cloud infrastructure, data, and AI
- Identifies pain points and modernization opportunities
- Develops detailed Points of View (POV) using a domain-centric, collaborative approach with architectural and tech pattern recommendations
- Evaluates enterprise architecture configurations based on business value, resilience, and cost
- Supports strategic roadmap development aligned with business priorities and technical dependencies
- Serves as SME for Architecture Review Board (ARB) governance and AI-related forums

- Skilled in architecture modeling and leveraging EA data models for visuals and insights
- Provides actionable architecture views tailored to complex ecosystems
- Architects cross-domain solutions spanning multiple business areas
- Maintains knowledge of enterprise architecture components (MDM, integration engines, microservices, cloud/hyperscaler platforms)
- Collaborates with IT and business stakeholders to assess needs and explore technology solutions
- Participates in cross-functional teams to define and implement architectural patterns and standards, engaging with key enterprise groups like Security, Legal, Compliance, and Infrastructure
KEY EXPERIENCE
- Experience as an Architecture Generalist; must be conversant across: applications, software engineering, data, infrastructure, and security. Able to design complex, enterprise level solutions end-to-end.
- Recent hands on architecture experience (not just oversight) as this is not a management or delegation heavy role.
- Experience with Cloud Architecture (Breadth Over Depth) – multi-cloud experience preferred: GCP, Azure, Oracle Cloud (AWS is less relevant). Must be able to explain trade offs between platforms and why one is chosen over another. Should understand cloud architecture concepts, not just platform specific tools.

- Experience in Healthcare & EMR Familiarity: Epic, Cerner, Athena is a plus. Should understand what an EMR does and how to integrate with it—not configure it. Deep EMR configuration experience is not required.
- Ability to clearly explain architectural decisions to both technical and business stakeholders.
- Architecture Decision-Making – must be able to articulate trade offs (e.g., caching vs. no caching, GCP vs. Azure). Should be able to walk through a solution design from scratch using a case study format.
- Familiar with scaled Agile, product model, and architecture frameworks like TOGAF.
- Experience with architecture modeling tools (e.g., Abacus, iServer, LeanIX, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
- Quick turnaround: preliminary interview followed by team interview on phone and Google
- Typically, two rounds with the hiring manager, joined by the team (virtual interview), possibly three rounds if necessary.
