THE ROLE:

You will own the knowledge graph infrastructure and data pipelines at the core of the platform — the systems that transform unstructured legal documents into structured, queryable legal ground truth.

Key responsibilities:

→ Design, build, and scale knowledge graph infrastructure and DAG-based pipelines on Prefect

→ Architect and own the first public-facing API (internal + customer-facing)

→ Scale to thousands of documents per data room with 5–10x growth ahead

→ Operate services on Kubernetes — deployment, observability, performance

→ Integrate agentic document processing pipelines alongside AI researchers

→ Shape the data layer: graph read/write scaling, Postgres, Redis caching

→ Establish engineering standards for multi-tenant enterprise law firm customers

✅ MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS-

Experience:

• 3+ years of production backend engineering

• Built and operated data pipelines, graph systems, or platform infrastructure

• Scaled systems through rapid data or traffic growth — preferably at a startup

• Designed APIs with clear, durable contracts (public-facing or internal)

Hard skills:

• Strong Python for backend development

• Kubernetes: deployment, observability, performance tuning

• Cloud-native, multi-cloud infrastructure experience

• CS or related degree from a top university (not a bootcamp)

Soft skills:

• Strong systems design judgment and bias toward shipping

• High-intensity work ethic — comfortable with seed-stage pace (70–80 hr weeks)

• Long tenure mindset — you build and own, you don't cycle through roles

• Deep backend specialist, not a full-stack engineer with shallow depth

⭐ NICE TO HAVE (Bonus Points)

• Experience with graph databases — especially Neo4j

• Pipeline orchestration: Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster

• SRE or infrastructure/platform engineering background

• Exposure to Go, Rust, or Zig

• Kafka, Temporal, or event-driven architecture experience

• Multi-tenant system design for enterprise or regulated industries

• Agentic or AI-integrated pipeline work

Base salary: $180,000 – $250,000
