Location: Hybrid – San Diego, CA (3 days/week onsite)

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $150,000 – $161,100 + 15% annual bonus

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Technical Architect to bring structure and strategic direction to a complex and evolving technology landscape. This role is instrumental in managing application portfolios, driving technology rationalization, and designing scalable integration architectures across enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

Application Portfolio Management

• Lead discovery, inventory, and documentation of enterprise applications
• Evaluate application health, business value, and strategic alignment
• Maintain a comprehensive and current portfolio database
• Develop dashboards and metrics to monitor portfolio performance
• Identify consolidation and retirement opportunities
• Support lifecycle management, including migration and decommissioning strategies

Application Rationalization & Optimization

• Drive initiatives to simplify the application landscape and reduce costs
• Build business cases for modernization, consolidation, and retirement
• Prioritize technical debt remediation
• Conduct total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis
• Track measurable improvements in cost savings and system efficiency
• Collaborate cross-functionally to execute rationalization strategies

Integration Architecture & Ecosystem Mapping

• Document integration landscapes, data flows, and system relationships
• Develop ecosystem maps to visualize dependencies and risks
• Design modern integration architectures (APIs, event-driven systems)
• Establish integration standards for cloud and hybrid environments
• Support API management, messaging systems, and data integration tools

Technical Architecture Support

• Participate in architecture reviews and provide expert guidance
• Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and technology evaluations
• Contribute to architecture standards and best practices
• Support cloud migration, modernization, and integration initiatives
• Evaluate vendor solutions for technical alignment

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
• 7–10 years of experience in technical architecture, application architecture, or systems integration
• 4+ years of hands-on experience in solution and application architecture
• Experience in regulated industries (energy, utilities, financial services) preferred
• Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect or TOGAF are a plus

Skills & Expertise

• Strong experience in application portfolio management and rationalization
• Expertise in integration technologies including REST, SOAP, and middleware

• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda
• Deep understanding of architecture patterns (monolithic, SOA, microservices, serverless)
• Experience with cloud migration and modernization initiatives
• Proficiency in TCO analysis, cost modeling, and migration strategy planning
• Strong documentation skills including architecture diagrams and data flows
• Ability to navigate complex systems and identify optimization opportunities
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as FERC, NERC CIP, GDPR, and CCPA
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Self-starter with strong problem-solving and systems-thinking capabilities
