About The Role
Senior Data Architect with strong enterprise‑data, cloud‑data‑platform, and analytics experience to lead the Government of Alberta’s data architecture for integrated application and reporting ecosystems. This remote role provides architectural and technical leadership across data models, governance, migration, and lakehouse design, ensuring high‑quality, secure, and compliant data for business and analytics platforms. The candidate will define end‑to‑end data architecture, design data models aligned with Microsoft Power Platform, Azure, Dataverse, and Dynamics 365, lead data‑migration and data‑quality efforts, and support reporting/analytics (e.g., Power BI) and governance activities.

Architecture & Leadership
- Experience defining and documenting data architecture, including data requirements, strategies/plans, architecture, design principles, models, and integration diagrams.
- Experience leading solution architecture and design on cloud and key data platforms, ensuring alignment with business requirements.
- Experience leading design and governance of schemas, tables, relationships, security roles, and data‑access patterns.
- Experience guiding platform/infrastructure teams to configure data‑platform services (e.g., Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics) to meet solution requirements.
- Experience reviewing and approving vendor‑delivered data designs, strategies, and implementations.
- Experience defining end‑to‑end data architecture across integrated applications and systems.
- Experience developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models aligned with platform standards, enterprise data policies, and Dataverse data modeling.
- Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Azure, and Fabric to design how data is organized, stored, and integrated across the Microsoft cloud ecosystem.
- Experience architecting integrations between solution and external systems (legacy platforms, document repositories, etc.), ensuring security, privacy, and auditability requirements are met.
- Experience serving as a data‑migration lead: mapping data from legacy platforms to new applications, ensuring accurate lineage, transformations, and alignment with new data models.
- Experience collaborating with vendors to validate mapping logic, support build activities, and ensure technical feasibility of data mappings.
- Experience designing extraction, transformation, cleansing, and validation approaches for data migration, including parallel‑run and cutover strategies.
- Experience defining data quality standards, validation rules, and acceptance criteria and supporting business validation, sampling, and exception management.
- Experience defining data‑warehouse / lakehouse architecture and requirements, including storage, archival, and retrieval strategies for both legacy and new system data.
- Experience using Microsoft Azure tools (Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks) to build modern data warehouses and lakehouses.
- Experience designing data‑mesh or lakehouse architectures using Azure technology to unify data‑management and analytics.
- Experience ensuring data‑architecture alignment between operational systems and reporting/analytics environments (e.g., Power BI, internal dashboards).

Architecture Leadership
- Define and document data‑architecture artifacts (data requirements, strategies, design principles, models, and integration diagrams).
- Lead solution‑architecture and design on cloud and core data platforms, ensuring alignment with business needs.
- Lead schema, table, relationship, security‑role, and data‑access‑pattern design and governance.

- Collaborate with vendors and business areas to define data rules, resolve data gaps, and ensure mappings support functional, operational, and reporting needs.
- Lead data‑migration strategy, including extraction, transformation, cleansing, and validation approaches.
- Ensure data integrity, traceability, and reconciliation throughout migration and support parallel‑run and cutover strategies to minimize business disruption.
- Define data‑warehouse / lakehouse approach and architecture, including storage, archival, and retrieval strategies for legacy and new system data.
- Use Microsoft Azure services (Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks) to build a modern data‑lakehouse for big‑data processing and analytics.
