HR Advisor - Labor Relations

About The Role

We are looking for an HR Advisor - Labor Relations to provide Human Resources operational support to the Iron Ore Company of Canada. The generalist’s duties for this role provide support to the business across a range of HR processes, policies and programs. Activities include supporting implementation of HR tools, systems, and organization and employee/labour relations queries. The work schedule is Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the HR Manager and working in an exciting and unique environment within the Iron Ore Company of Canada, you will be

  • Providing coaching and support to leaders and employees on HR systems, processes, policies, procedures, and programs
  • Advising on human resources policies and procedures, employee relations, performance, labour and regulatory issues
  • Providing advice, support and coaching in the use of human resources systems (e.g remuneration/benefits, performance management)
  • Partnering with and supporting leaders and HR Business Partners with annual activities as well as helping the business achieve their People Resource strategies
  • Providing employee relations support including management of grievances and arbitration files in a professional and confidential manner
  • Leading change management efforts related to integration of new HR tools and processes

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or other combination of education & experience3-5 years of relevant HR Generalist experience
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively apply knowledge of human resources laws & policies
  • Employee Relations experience
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Prior experience working with offshore internal service providers and a shared services environment
  • Some level of fluency in French would be an asset.
  • Experience with working with unions, negotiations, Collective agreements and Labor Relations

IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits; a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  We also operate a wholly-owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles.
