Senior Database Administrator (SQL DBA) for Large-Scale State Modernization Initiative

Position Title: Senior Level Database Administrator (SQL DBA)

Location: Tallahassee, FL (100% Remote)

Engagement: Long-term Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking Senior Database Administrators with strong expertise in MS SQL Server, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Power BI, and Azure DevOps to support a large-scale state modernization initiative. The DBA will manage production and non-production databases, support system migration, ensure data security and compliance, and actively collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 8+ years of experience in database design, implementation, administration, maintenance, and support across multiple platforms.

• 8+ years of hands-on experience writing complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions.
• 5+ years of experience with MS SQL Server and SSRS (parameters, sub-reports, drill-downs, subscriptions).
• 3+ years of experience creating and maintaining reports using Azure Power BI.
• 3+ years of experience working with web applications.
• 2+ years of experience with Azure DevOps, Visual Studio .NET, and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Strong experience with backup/recovery strategies, database performance tuning, and data security standards.
• Proven ability to produce technical documentation (requirements, designs, test plans, traceability matrices).
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise or government implementations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain all databases supporting the EFS modernization project.
• Support database migration and ongoing maintenance of the Enhanced Field System (EFS).
• Maintain and update the DEL website Parent Portal as needed.
• Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Participate in project meetings, stakeholder calls, and technical discussions.
• Produce monthly status reports outlining progress and upcoming activities.
• Communicate effectively with technical teams, leadership, and state/federal stakeholders.
• Identify risks, resolve technical obstacles, and assist with contingency planning.
