About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Staff/Principal Software Engineer to join our Continuous Integration Infrastructure (CII) team. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining the underlying infrastructure that supports our expansive CI and artifact systems, which are critical to thousands of engineers across Block. The role involves designing, building, and operating scalable and reliable CI services that streamline developer workflows, improve release quality, and enhance software delivery security and observability. As a key member of our engineering team, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, define strategic roadmaps, and lead initiatives to unify and optimize our CI infrastructure. Your work will directly impact developer experience, operational efficiency, and the security posture of our software delivery pipelines.
Qualifications
- Multiple years of experience at Staff or Principal level, demonstrating impact across multiple teams and projects
- Extensive experience architecting and operating large-scale CI or build systems in production environments
- Deep understanding of container technologies and related infrastructure
- Strong expertise in designing and implementing secure systems, with a focus on supply chain security
- Proficiency in software engineering languages such as Go, Kotlin, Java, Ruby, or Python, and Bash/shell scripting
- Experience with automation, capacity planning, and resource optimization within cloud environments, particularly AWS
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a natural curiosity for learning new technologies and building high-quality software
- Exceptional collaboration and mentoring abilities, with a proven track record of leading technical initiatives
Responsibilities
- Partner with engineering teams to define and execute the strategic roadmap for CI infrastructure
- Lead the design, development, and operation of scalable CI and artifact storage systems
- Own end-to-end responsibility for CI services, including performance, security, and reliability enhancements
- Mentor and support fellow engineers to grow technical capabilities and best practices
- Develop automation solutions for dynamic capacity planning and resource management to optimize performance and cost
- Consolidate multiple CI platforms into a unified, standardized experience for end-users
- Provide technical guidance and solutions across teams such as Developer Experience, Platform Engineering, and Security
- Champion security best practices, focusing on supply chain security and system integrity
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to continually improve infrastructure and workflows
