About The Role

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Software Engineer specializing in Security Observability to join our Security team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable systems that enhance the company's security monitoring and incident response capabilities. Your expertise will be instrumental in building robust data pipelines and infrastructure that centralize security-relevant data from various sources, enabling proactive threat detection and forensic analysis. This position offers the flexibility of remote work or relocation assistance to our offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or similar.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Azure.
  • Strong background in building and maintaining data pipelines for security-related use cases.
  • Knowledge of security data management, forensic investigations, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with site reliability engineering (SRE) principles and practices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including security, engineering, and operations.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a focus on system resilience and reliability.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, innovative environment with a generalist engineering mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable software systems that facilitate comprehensive security observability across OpenAI’s infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain data pipelines that aggregate security-relevant data from diverse sources into centralized repositories.
  • Enhance the resilience, reliability, and availability of security data systems to support continuous monitoring and incident response.
  • Collaborate with Detection & Response (D&R) and other security teams to identify, analyze, and mitigate security risks.
  • Support forensic investigations by developing data engineering solutions that enable detailed security analysis and compliance reporting.
  • Implement security best practices in software development and infrastructure management.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve existing systems to adapt to evolving security threats and technical requirements.
  • Participate in cross-team projects to develop innovative solutions that enhance security visibility and operational efficiency.
