Job Description

About The Company

Flashfood is a innovative marketplace application dedicated to connecting grocery retailers with consumers through a sustainable and cost-effective platform. By enabling grocers to list items nearing their best-before dates—such as fresh produce, meats, and bakery goods—at discounted prices, Flashfood helps retailers recover costs, reduce food waste, and attract a broader customer base. Shoppers benefit from access to high-quality groceries at reduced prices, making healthy eating more accessible and affordable. The company's mission centers around promoting food sustainability, reducing landfill waste, and fostering community engagement by keeping nutritious food on dinner tables rather than landfills. With a focus on technological innovation and environmental responsibility, Flashfood continues to expand its footprint across North America, supporting both retail partners and consumers in building a more sustainable food system.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic HR Manager to lead human resources operations across the United States and Canada. Reporting directly to the Vice President of People, this role is pivotal in supporting our growing workforce in both regions by ensuring compliance with employment laws, driving HR initiatives, and cultivating a positive, inclusive workplace culture. The ideal candidate will possess extensive cross-border HR expertise, combining hands-on operational skills with strategic planning capabilities to support a rapidly scaling organization. Responsibilities include managing employee relations, overseeing compliance, talent acquisition, benefits administration, and leading various HR projects. This role requires a proactive approach to HR management, excellent communication skills, and a strong understanding of employment standards in both countries to foster a supportive and compliant work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree or HR certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CHRP preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive HR experience supporting employees in both the U.S. and Canada.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as Canadian federal and provincial employment standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement HR strategies that align with organizational goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in managing employee relations, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing needs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR contact for employees and managers across the U.S. and Canada, providing guidance and support on HR policies and practices.
  • Partner with leadership to develop and sustain a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture.
  • Provide coaching on performance management, employee engagement, and conflict resolution, including conducting workplace investigations when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations in both countries by maintaining and updating employee handbooks, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel to mitigate employment-related risks and ensure organizational compliance.
  • Support full-cycle recruitment efforts, including onboarding and offboarding processes, to enhance the employee experience.
  • Develop and oversee performance management systems that align with organizational objectives.
  • Coordinate compensation reviews, benchmarking, and benefits administration to ensure market competitiveness and legal compliance.
  • Manage HRIS systems, ensuring data accuracy, reporting, and analytics to support workforce planning and decision-making.
  • Partner with payroll teams to guarantee accurate and timely processing of payroll in both regions.
  • Lead and support HR projects such as diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, wellness programs, and employee engagement activities.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package, potentially including base salary, performance bonuses, and equity options.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth within a dynamic organization.
  • Flexible, fully remote work environment with the possibility of occasional travel as needed.
  • Inclusive and collaborative workplace culture that values diversity and innovation.
