Senior SQL Database Administrator (Contract-to-Hire, Azure Migration Focus)
Remote | Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire | US Candidates Only
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Database Administrator to join a long-term project for one of our clients in the United States. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity and will play a central role in a business-critical SQL Server to Azure migration initiative.
As part of this engagement, youâll be contributing to the ongoing modernization of our clientâs data infrastructure, focusing on availability, performance, and disaster recovery. The client is a stable and technology-driven organization with a strong engineering culture and an emphasis on cloud adoption.

đź What You'll Do
- Lead the migration of SQL Server databases to Microsoft Azure, including assessments, execution, and validation.
- Administer and optimize SQL Server instances in Azure, both on Azure VMs and Azure SQL Databases.
- Implement and manage AlwaysOn Availability Groups to support high availability and disaster recovery.
- Perform daily database tasks including monitoring, performance tuning, backups, and patching.
- Work closely with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure a secure and performant database environment.
- Review and continuously improve backup and DR strategies.
- Support the clientâs DevOps practices, using tools like Azure DevOps and Visual Studio Team Services for versioning and deployment workflows.
â What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in complex, enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience migrating SQL Server workloads to Azure.
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server 2016+, including performance tuning, T-SQL, and query optimization.
- Experience with AlwaysOn Availability Groups in production environments.
- Experience managing both Azure SQL Database and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools, such as Azure DevOps or TFS.
- Ability to troubleshoot performance issues and ensure optimal database health and uptime.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in distributed teams.
â Bonus Skills
- Experience with SQL Replication, Service Broker, SSIS/SSRS/SSAS.
- Familiarity with PowerShell or Azure CLI scripting.
- Experience with containerized database workloads (e.g., Docker + SQL Server).
- Bachelorâs degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
