Senior Java Developer

£550–£650/day (Inside IR35)

Location: Fully remote

Contract: 6 months

Meritus is working with a leading consultancy delivering projects into UK Central Government. They are seeking a Senior Java Developer to join a high-performing engineering team building and maintaining critical systems within a secure environment.

You’ll be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions using the Java stack, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams of developers, testers, and DevOps engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, code, review, and unit test Java-based applications.
• Collaborate with developers, testers, and DevOps engineers across the full delivery lifecycle.
• Support and enhance legacy systems currently in maintenance mode.
• Contribute to automation testing (C#) and infrastructure work (Docker, Ansible, Python, Linux).
• Maintain high engineering standards with clean, maintainable code and thorough documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience with Java, Spring, Maven, Git, JUnit, and web APIs (REST/JSON, XML/SOAP).
• Active SC Clearance (essential).
• Strong experience delivering software in complex or high-pressure environments.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills within cross-disciplinary technical teams.
