About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated DevOps / Site Reliability Platform Engineer with expertise in Kubevirt and Kubernetes to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in designing, implementing, and maintaining infrastructure solutions such as RedHat OpenShift and OpenShift Virtualization, primarily within our on-premises data centers. The successful candidate will work closely with a geographically distributed team to support Ford’s rapidly expanding data and compute needs, focusing on virtualization/container strategies and ecosystem enhancements. The role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the development of new solutions, improve platform developer experience, and reduce operational complexity. This position requires a proactive individual with a passion for cutting-edge technology and a desire to drive cultural change within IT operations toward more agile, iterative methodologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field
- 3+ years of strong Linux experience across multiple platforms (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE)
- 1+ years of experience with Kubevirt and Kubernetes
- 1+ years of virtualization and container technology experience
- 1+ years of experience with cloud-based PaaS and IaaS, preferably GCP and Azure
- 2+ years of experience with GIT and CI/CD pipelines using Tekton, Argo, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins
- Experience with Prometheus and Grafana
- Proficiency in Kustomize and Helm
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Go, Python, or Bourne Shell
- Knowledge of RESTful API concepts and JSON formats
- Understanding of application development architectures and web deployment methodologies
Responsibilities
- Design, upgrade, and maintain OpenShift Virtualization Operators and related components
- Manage OpenShift Virtualization namespaces and permissions to ensure secure and efficient operations
- Develop automation scripts and tools for provisioning, Day 2 operations, decommissioning, and migration processes
- Collaborate with team members to establish code standards, participate in code reviews, and contribute to technical design discussions
- Implement and support monitoring solutions using Prometheus and Grafana to ensure platform reliability and performance
- Drive the development of new features and solutions to enhance the Kubevirt/Kubernetes platform's developer experience and operational efficiency
- Work with cross-functional teams to support deployment, troubleshooting, and optimization of infrastructure components
- Document processes, runbooks, disaster recovery plans, and platform architecture for operational excellence
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to continually improve platform capabilities
