Job Description
The Global Database Engineering & Operation Group within the Technology division is responsible for the entire database estate, with provision of extremely high levels of availability for the production, test & development systems to the dealers, customers and internal users.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitoring database availability, identifying potential problems, proposing ways to optimize availability & scalability.
- Working with the Infrastructure and Line of Business Technology teams to architect and implement new technologies and strategies
- Managing data backup and restores required for disaster recovery.
- Installation of new servers, and upgrade of existing servers with regard to patches and new versions.
- The provision of extremely high levels of availability for the Production, and UAT systems.
- Resolution of any problems in these systems in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensuring compliance with company security procedures.
- Automation of regular / recurring tasks
Requirements
- College degree in computer science or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of technical knowledge required.
- 7-10 years of administration & development experience in MS SQL Server (2016/2017/2019)
- 5+ years supporting a complex, large-scale, high transactional volume system to very high levels of availability
- 5+ years of writing ad-hoc T-SQL queries and authoring/debugging stored procedures, functions and triggers
- 4+ years of using PowerShell to streamline and automate frequent/recurring tasks
- Hands-on experience of database schema and code release processes
- Experience of evaluating query performance and implementing changes/strategies to improve it
- Experience building and supporting SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups
- Experience of supporting Development / QA / TechOps teams to assist with data maintenance and query building
- Experience of creating and maintaining SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages for data extraction, transformation & loading
- In this role you will be required to be flexible regarding work schedule, including evening and occasional weekend duties, plus actively participating in the on-call shift rotation
Nice to have:
- An understanding of the fixed-income / derivatives / equity markets and the financial instruments that trade on them
- 4+ years supporting all types of SQL Server replication
- Experience of the Quest suite of monitoring tools
- Experience using Solarwinds Database Performance Analyzer (DPA)
