Job Description
What you’ll do:
- Design and simulate silicon photonics integrated optical devices for diverse applications, including biosensing and optical communications.
- Development of photonic integrated circuits according to foundry design rules, optimizing designs to ensure high yield and superior performance.
- Formulate and implement test plans to evaluate the performance of photonic integrated circuits, including the definition of experimental characterization setups.
- Measure of fabricated devices and analysis of experimental results.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electronic engineers, software developers, and system engineers, to seamlessly integrate photonic solutions into broader systems.
- Document design processes, characterization results and project milestones.
- Collaborate in the elaboration of project proposals for both R&D and customer-oriented projects (depending on seniority)
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or a related field, PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with post-graduate specialization in photonics.
- Relevant and demonstrable experience in photonics structures design and simulation preferably in a high-tech or startup environment, or during PhD. Experience in the design of photonics devices for optical communications applications is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with some of the main photonics design and simulation tools, i.e. Ansys Lumerical, Synopsis RSOFT, Tidy 3D, Meep and/or MPB.
- Hands-on experience in mask layout design for commercial foundries. Experience in design flow and layout scripting for integrated photonics (e.g. Nazca, KLayout) is a big plus.
- Experience with general engineering software such as Matlab, Labview and programming languages such as C/C++, Python…
- Contrastable lab skills, including handling of optical instrumentation: laser, power meter, lenses, polarizers, IR-cameras…
- Participation in research or industrial projects is a plus.
- Exhibit passion, energy, and a high level of motivation to contribute to R&D projects and initiatives.
- Showcase strong teamwork, organizational skills, autonomy, and project management capabilities.
What we offer:
- A great team with first class colleagues and experienced academic advisors that will unleash your PIC design skills.
- Work on a product-oriented deep-tech start-up in an early stage, enabling a professional career with huge potential for motivated and talented young people.
- Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
- Relocation package if applies.
- Intensive summer days and every Friday of the year.
- 23 days’ vacation plus bank holidays.
- Cutting-edge equipment boosting your productivity.
