Job Description
Nicoustic was founded in June 2022 based on groundbreaking R&D cooperation between Equinor and Fraunhofer IKTS institute (Germany). Our product is a non-intrusive sensor system based on Guided Ultrasonic Waves. Our sensors are able detect levels of solids and liquids in separators and tanks in a non-intrusive manner (from the outside). This removes the need for flanges, penetrations, and tank entry. Our main customers in the beginning are in the oil & gas industry, but we have also seen strong interest in our products from the other industries such as renewables and chemicals where we plan to expand.Â
The company has received great traction in the industry and a winning team is now in place in Trondheim. We have raised enough capital, including public grants, industry funding and private investor capital, to enable us to develop and commercialize our products according to the plan. Our first pilot has already started on Snorre A platform (Equinor) and we continue to focus on R&D through our Joint Industry Project (JIP) with 6 operator companies.Â
We are headquartered in a brand-new office in Trondheim close to Sirkus Shopping. The highlight of the day is the best lunch in Trondheim (seriously…). As a start-up we can also offer an informal atmosphere, flexible working conditions and an opportunity to build a career and influence strategic decisions early.Â
What you will be working onÂ
You will play a crucial role as a key member of the team responsible for further developing and testing our core technology – an algorithm that interprets raw signals from our sensors and translates it into level measurement data, making sure it functions according to the specification and is properly integrated into the software environment.Â
The algorithm performs advanced mathematical analysis of guided acoustic waves data and thus it is important that you possess expert-level knowledge and experience with acoustic wave physics and can apply it in practice for signal processing purposes. There is an opportunity to enhance the accuracy of the measurement by applying machine learning techniques and it is thus an advantage if you have experience with machine learning applied to wave physics.Â
Since the algorithm operates as a part of a software environment, it is an advantage if you have knowledge about software programming and architecture. Programming expertise in MATLAB and/or Python is a prerequisite for this position.Â
A successful candidate will have 5+ years of experience working with advanced mathematical analysis of physical phenomena within acoustic waves domain. Prior experience might include academic work (PhD level) in ultrasound domain, analysis of large data sets in the context of geophysics as well as modelling and simulations of acoustic signals. Experience with sensors based on ultrasound is an advantage.Â
We are not geared towards recruitment process with candidates residing outside of Europe, therefore you need to be a citizen or permanent resident holder in a European country or Norway. We can provide relocation assistance to Trondheim to the right candidate.Â
What we can offer youÂ
- A chance to become part of an exciting journey from prototype to first commercial productÂ
- Steep personal and professional development with clear responsibility in your fieldÂ
- Flexible work location, work hours and holiday arrangementsÂ
- Less internal rules and regulations – more responsibility for the resultsÂ
- Inspiring colleagues and work environmentÂ
- Attractive compensation, benefits, pension, and insuranceÂ
What we expect from youÂ
- Expertise within the field of ultrasound physics as described in the tasks aboveÂ
- Be responsible for deliveries, plan and budget in our technology development activitiesÂ
- Be proactive, always a team player and part of the solutionÂ
- Live by our values: Honest – Compliant – Result OrientedÂ
Â
Formal qualificationsÂ
- MSc/PhD in physics, geophysics or applied mathematicsÂ
- At least 5 years of professional experience with acoustic wave physics and signal processingÂ
- Experience from work with large data setsÂ
- Proficient with MATLAB and/or PythonÂ
- Resident or work permit holder in Norway/Europe, resident or willing to relocate to TrondheimÂ
- Fluent in EnglishÂ
Â
Bonus qualificationsÂ
- Experience with industrial sensors in process plantsÂ
- Experience in modelling and simulations of acoustic signalsÂ
- Experience in Machine LearningÂ
- Experience in agile software developmentÂ
- Fluent in Norwegian/ScandinavianÂ
