Staff Frontend Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer based in Canada.

This is a senior technical leadership role focused on designing and developing major frontend systems and high-impact product initiatives. You will work across teams to solve complex engineering challenges and shape scalable frontend architecture. The role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and mentorship. You will help improve engineering velocity, product quality, performance, and maintainability across large-scale web applications. Working closely with backend, integrations, product, design, and QA teams, you will influence both technical direction and execution. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced frontend engineer who thrives in fast-moving environments, brings clarity to ambiguity, and enjoys raising the engineering standards of the teams around them.

Accountabilities

• Lead the development of complex product features and frontend systems using Angular and React, taking ownership of technical execution and ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with product goals.
• Architect reusable frontend patterns, component systems, and application structures that improve product quality, engineering consistency, and developer velocity across multiple teams and domains.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, UI architecture challenges, scalability risks, and other technical issues affecting large-scale web applications.
• Establish and promote engineering best practices across testing, observability, code quality, maintainability, and frontend development workflows.
• Partner closely with backend engineering, integrations, product, design, and QA teams to deliver high-quality user experiences while maintaining speed and technical excellence.
• Drive strong technical decision-making in situations involving tight timelines, ambiguity, competing priorities, and evolving product requirements.
• Own technical delivery across large and complex initiatives, balancing immediate product objectives with long-term architectural health and sustainability.
• Develop and execute effective testing strategies covering unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to improve confidence in frontend releases and product reliability.
• Mentor engineers and help elevate frontend engineering practices, craftsmanship, technical judgment, and problem-solving capabilities across the organization.
• Contribute to improving collaboration and consistency among frontend engineers working across different product areas and technical domains.
  
  

Requirements

• Seven or more years of professional frontend engineering experience, with deep hands-on expertise in both Angular and React and a strong understanding of modern frontend development practices.
• Advanced knowledge of TypeScript, RxJS, NgRx, and modern frontend architecture patterns, with the ability to apply these technologies effectively to complex and scalable applications.
• Proven experience designing reusable component systems and scalable frontend application structures that can support large products and multiple engineering teams.
• Deep expertise in frontend performance optimization, debugging, scalability, and the development of large-scale web applications.
• Strong understanding of testing practices and experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using tools such as Jest, Vitest, Playwright, or comparable frameworks, including the ability to define appropriate testing strategies.
• Demonstrated success leading major technical initiatives and influencing architectural and engineering decisions across multiple teams or organizational areas.
• Strong product sense and the ability to understand business and user needs while making sound technical decisions in a fast-moving environment.
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, design, QA, and other stakeholders.
• Proven mentorship experience and a track record of helping other engineers strengthen their technical capabilities and overall engineering craftsmanship.
• Strong execution skills, ownership, and judgment, particularly when operating in high-urgency environments with changing priorities.
• Demonstrated AI fluency and willingness to leverage AI tools and capabilities as part of everyday engineering work, as AI usage and proficiency are considered during the hiring process.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and collaborate across teams and functions.
