Job Description
QA Automation Engineer
Ireland | Fully Remote | €50,000 - €55,000
I'm working with an established Irish B2B SaaS company looking for a QA Automation Engineer to join one of its core product teams.
This is a hands-on automation position. You'll be building and maintaining automated test coverage across web applications and APIs, working with technologies including Playwright, Cypress and TypeScript, and contributing to CI/CD and release quality.
But this isn't a role where QA sits at the end of development waiting for completed tickets to test.
You'll work directly alongside Software Engineers, Product Owners and Engineering Leads from the beginning of the development lifecycle, understanding why features are being built, how customers will use them, where the biggest risks sit and how that should influence what gets tested and automated.
You'll take ownership of QA within your product area and be embedded within a cross-functional engineering team.
You'll be responsible for:
- Building, maintaining and improving automated test frameworks and suites
- Developing automated UI and API testing
- Expanding existing Playwright and Cypress coverage
- Working hands-on with TypeScript within the automation environment
- Integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Owning regression coverage and supporting releases
- Getting involved early in Three Amigos, refinement, planning and requirements discussions
- Understanding new features from both a technical and customer perspective
- Identifying the highest-risk areas and deciding where testing effort should be focused
- Challenging requirements and acceptance criteria when you identify potential gaps
- Carrying out exploratory and manual testing where automation isn't necessarily the best approach
- Proactively identifying gaps in quality, coverage or existing processes
- Working directly with developers throughout delivery rather than operating as a separate QA function
- Helping the wider team continuously improve its approach to quality
Ideally, you'll have around 3-6 years' commercial QA experience, with a strong proportion of that spent working hands-on with automation.
Technically, we're looking for experience across areas such as:
- QA / Test Automation
- Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or similar
- TypeScript, JavaScript, Java or another programming language
- API testing
- Web application testing
- CI/CD
- SQL
- Git
- Agile software development

Experience with TypeScript, Java, REST APIs, AWS, mobile applications and modern CI/CD pipelines would be particularly useful.
You don't need every technology listed above. Strong automation fundamentals and the ability to pick up new tools quickly are much more important.
This is an important part of the search.
We're particularly interested in QA Engineers who have worked within SaaS or product-led technology companies, ideally within start-ups, scale-ups or smaller/mid-sized engineering organisations.
You'll probably have experience working in an environment where:
- QA is embedded directly within a product or engineering squad
- You work closely with Software Engineers and Product Owners every day
- You're involved before development begins, rather than receiving something once it's ready for testing
- You've had genuine ownership over how something should be tested
- You've had to understand customers, workflows and business requirements rather than simply technical acceptance criteria
- You've had the freedom to identify problems and improve things without being asked
- Releases happen regularly and QA plays an important role in determining release confidence
Experience within fintech, regtech, payments, identity, cybersecurity or another regulated SaaS environment would be particularly interesting, but isn't essential.
The important thing is having worked close to a product and the people using it.
What This Role Isn't
This isn't a QA management position.
You'll remain hands-on with automation and testing, so it probably won't suit someone looking to move primarily into people management, QA leadership or strategy.
Likewise, we're not looking for a pure automation specialist whose role has mainly been building frameworks or automating predefined test cases without wider involvement in the product.

If most of your experience has been within a large enterprise testing function where QA, Product and Development operate as separate teams and testing priorities are largely defined for you, this particular environment may not be the best match.
We're looking for someone who enjoys being close to the product, close to engineering and directly responsible for quality.
You'll be joining an established Irish SaaS business building technology used by organisations operating within highly regulated environments.
The engineering organisation has a strong automation culture, increasingly uses AI tooling throughout development and gives engineers a high degree of autonomy over how they work.
QA is viewed as part of the engineering process from the beginning, with involvement across requirements, refinement, development, testing and release.
You'll initially take ownership within one of the company's core product teams before gradually gaining exposure across the wider platform.
Salary: €50,000 - €55,000
The position is fully remote within Ireland, although there is a Dublin office available for anyone who prefers spending some time with the team in person.
The wider package includes:
- 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Your birthday off
- €400 annual wellness contribution
- Annual salary reviews
- Educational and certification support
- Two weeks working abroad each year
- Regular company events and quarterly meet-ups
If you're a hands-on QA Automation Engineer who enjoys the technical side of automation but also wants genuine ownership over product quality, I'd be keen to hear from you.
Particularly if you've worked in a SaaS, start-up or scale-up environment where you've been expected to ask questions, identify risks, challenge assumptions and figure things out rather than simply execute a testing plan.
