Job Description
Department: Cloud
Location: Copenhagen
Factbird helps manufacturers turn real-time production data into decisions they can actually act on. Since 2016, we've helped manufacturers in 28 countries cut waste, boost uptime, and run smarter — from the shop floor to the boardroom. Over 300 companies trust us to make sense of their operations, and we're a team of 80+ people across Copenhagen and the US who care about making complex things simple.
As we grow, so does the amount of customer trust we're responsible for — and that's where you come in. We're looking for a Senior Security & Compliance Engineer to take ownership of how Factbird protects its systems, its data, and its customers' trust.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, senior role: you'll need the technical depth to dig into our infrastructure yourself, plus the judgment and communication skills to drive change across the company. You won't be handed a fully built program — you'll help build it, which means proactively auditing what we have today, figuring out what matters most, and making the case for what to improve first.
This is a senior position in Factbird's engineering team. You'll be trusted to make architecture and process calls, mentor others, and represent security in rooms where the details matter, connecting technical decisions to customer trust and business risk, not just closing tickets.
You'll do well here if you take a pragmatic, risk-based approach, and if you're as comfortable influencing people who don't report to you as you are digging through logs yourself.
What you'll do
Security posture & audits
- Assess our current security and compliance posture, spot the gaps, and recommend improvements grounded in what will actually move the needle
- Own our technical security audits end to end — running them, turning findings into a prioritised, realistic plan, and helping us get (and maintain) the certifications and controls that matter to our customers
- Design and implement security controls and processes across our cloud infrastructure, applications, and development practices, including running security risk and penetration tests on a regular cadence
- Take a pragmatic, risk-based approach to it all — we're not a bank, and our controls shouldn't pretend we are
Influence & partnership
- Author proposals and technical specs for security initiatives, and drive them to a decision
- Mentor engineers on secure coding and security-minded design — you'll be the go-to person for the team
- Partner with engineering leadership on architecture decisions that touch security or compliance
- Represent security in cross-functional conversations with Product, Customer Success, and Sales when customers ask us hard questions — and they will

We're looking for someone with the technical depth to dig into our AWS environment and codebase themselves, and the pragmatism to know the difference between what's technically ideal and what's right for a company our size. You've ideally worked in small companies before and know what it's like to build a security program from a standing start without a dedicated team behind you.
The ideal background
- At least five years experience since graduating from a relevant Masters program
- Solid technical experience in security engineering, with the ability to dig into our AWS environment, Rust-built codebase, and processes yourself — not just point at them
- Working familiarity with frameworks like SOC 2, GDPR, and similar, and what it actually takes to operationalise them, not just the checklist
- A track record of running or contributing meaningfully to technical audits
- The communication skills to influence people who don't report to you — you can make the case for a change and bring people along with it. And you can do this with strong English fluency.
