Job Description

About Nebul

At Nebul, we’re building Europe’s sovereign AI cloud — trusted, secure, and purpose-built for the next generation of intelligent infrastructure.

Our platform combines Kubernetes, NVIDIA GPU infrastructure, cloud-native services and automation to support demanding AI workloads. As the platform grows, we need stronger internal ownership of the databases and stateful services that underpin our infrastructure and applications.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a DevOps Engineer – Database Reliability, you’ll work within Nebul’s platform team on the infrastructure that powers our sovereign AI cloud.

Your role will primarily be DevOps-focused, but you’ll bring the database knowledge needed to take ownership of database-related operational issues, performance, availability and automation.

You’ll work with Kubernetes-based infrastructure, services written in Go and Python, and the systems supporting NVIDIA GPU environments. You’ll help ensure that databases and other stateful platform components are reliable, observable, secure and properly integrated into the wider cloud platform.

This is not a traditional DBA position. You’ll work across infrastructure, automation, Kubernetes and platform operations, while becoming the team’s primary point of knowledge for database reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, operate and improve Kubernetes-based infrastructure supporting Nebul’s sovereign AI cloud.
  • Take technical and operational ownership of the databases used by Nebul’s platform and internal services.
  • Troubleshoot database-related availability, connectivity, performance and capacity issues.
  • Automate database deployment, configuration, backup, recovery and maintenance processes.
  • Support stateful workloads running within Kubernetes environments.
  • Improve the reliability and scalability of services written in Go and Python.
  • Build monitoring, alerting and operational visibility for databases and stateful services.
  • Work with engineers on database migrations, schema changes and production readiness.
  • Ensure database services are properly backed up and can be restored within defined recovery objectives.
  • Investigate production incidents and implement structural improvements after root-cause analysis.
  • Improve Infrastructure as Code, deployment automation and configuration management.
  • Work closely with DevOps, SRE, platform and software engineering teams.
  • Document operational procedures, architecture decisions, recovery processes and troubleshooting steps.
  • Reduce dependency on external or unrelated team members for specialist database support.

What Your Day Will Not Look Like

  • Working as a traditional DBA who only manages databases.
  • Spending most of your time manually administering servers.
  • Operating infrastructure without improving automation or reliability.
  • Escalating every database issue to another engineer or external specialist.

What You Bring

  • Strong experience as a DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer or Cloud Engineer.
  • Production experience with Kubernetes and containerised infrastructure.
  • Strong experience operating relational databases in production environments.
  • Good understanding of database performance, availability, replication, backup and recovery.
  • Experience with Go, Python or services built using these languages.
  • Strong Linux and infrastructure troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience operating stateful applications in Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment practices.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, logging, metrics and alerting.
  • The ability to troubleshoot across databases, applications, Kubernetes and infrastructure.
  • An ownership mindset and the ability to establish structure around an area that currently lacks clear ownership.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience supporting AI, GPU or high-performance infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA infrastructure or GPU-based cloud environments.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL in cloud-native or Kubernetes environments.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes operators for managing databases or stateful services.
  • Experience with multi-tenant cloud platforms.
  • Experience with distributed storage and persistent Kubernetes workloads.
  • Familiarity with secure or sovereign cloud environments.
  • Experience writing operational tooling or automation in Go or Python.
