Senior Mechanical Design Engineering Manager - Medium-Voltage Products

Location: Florida (Relocation package available) – minimal travel

Remote across the U.S.: 70% travel required

Position Overview

We are helping an electrical equipment manufacturer hire a Mechanical Design Engineering Manager to lead the design of custom medium-voltage products for commercial and industrial customers.

This person will manage an engineering team, improve design processes, support product standardization, and make sure designs are accurate, manufacturable, and completed on time.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Manufacturing Support

• Oversee the design of custom medium-voltage products, including switchgear and bus systems.
• Make sure designs meet customer needs, manufacturing requirements, and industry standards.
• Work with manufacturing and quality teams to solve design-related issues.
• Help improve the handoff from engineering to production.

Process Improvement

• Improve engineering workflows and reduce design turnaround time.
• Standardize design methods, documents, and engineering practices.
• Track team performance using reports, metrics, and dashboards.
• Find process gaps and implement practical improvements.

Team Leadership

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers and designers.
• Set clear expectations for quality, deadlines, and performance.
• Support training, knowledge sharing, and team development.
• Manage priorities and engineering workloads.

Cross-Functional Work

• Work with sales, planning, and other teams to turn customer needs into workable designs.
• Keep stakeholders updated on project progress, risks, and deadlines.
• Support multiple projects at the same time and help keep them on schedule.

Engineering Tools & Standards

• Improve the use of CAD tools and design-to-order processes.
• Use FEA and other engineering tools when needed for design review and improvement.
• Ensure designs follow applicable UL, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Keep the team updated on new tools, technologies, and design methods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with medium-voltage equipment such as switchgear, bus systems, or similar products.
• 5+ years of leadership experience in engineering or technical teams.
• Experience improving engineering processes and standardizing workflows.
• Knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
• Experience with FEA or similar simulation tools.
• Good understanding of UL, IEEE, and ANSI standards for medium-voltage equipment.
