YourCode is partnering with a global digital engineering consultancy to hire a talented WordPress Engineer to join their fully remote engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level WordPress Developer with strong PHP and front-end development experience who enjoys building custom WordPress platforms rather than relying on off-the-shelf plugins.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers on enterprise-scale digital products, building custom themes, plugins, integrations and modern web applications for globally recognised organisations.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes, plugins and bespoke functionality
• Build scalable WordPress applications using PHP, MySQL and REST APIs
• Work extensively with WordPress Core including Hooks, Filters, WP_Query, Template Hierarchy, Rewrite Rules and WP-CLI
• Create custom post types, taxonomies, structured content and reusable components
• Develop Gutenberg blocks using ACF and modern block development techniques
• Integrate third-party APIs and external systems into WordPress applications
• Convert Figma and Sketch designs into responsive, pixel-perfect user interfaces
• Develop modern front-end components using HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, JavaScript (ES6+) and jQuery
• Optimise website speed, database performance and front-end assets
• Debug and resolve complex WordPress issues using logs, debugging tools and structured troubleshooting
• Collaborate with QA, Product, Design and Senior Engineering teams within an Agile environment

• Write clean, secure and maintainable code following WordPress coding standards

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years' commercial experience as a WordPress Engineer, WordPress Developer or PHP Developer
• Strong experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins
• Excellent understanding of:
• WordPress Core
• Hooks & Filters
• WP_Query
• Gutenberg
• REST APIs
• Custom Post Types
• Taxonomies
• Strong PHP 7/8 development skills with Object-Oriented Programming
• Experience developing custom solutions without relying heavily on third-party plugins
• Strong front-end development skills using HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, JavaScript (ES6+) and jQuery
• Experience working with MySQL databases and query optimisation
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and JSON-based services
• Knowledge of Git, pull requests and collaborative development workflows
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and spoken English
