Founding Product Designer - AI Startup

I'm working with a well-funded AI startup that recently emerged from stealth after raising more than $55M+ and is now rapidly scaling its team. They're building next-generation AI infrastructure and are looking for a Founding Product Designer to own the product design function from the ground up.

As the founding designer, you'll define how users interact with entirely new AI capabilities, shaping products from concept through launch while working directly with engineering and leadership.

What You'll Do

• Own the end-to-end product design process, from problem discovery and concept exploration through execution, launch, and iteration.
• Design intuitive experiences across web and mobile platforms.
• Create, evolve, and maintain a scalable design system, including components, design tokens, and documentation.
• Build interactive prototypes in Figma and modern AI-powered design tools to quickly validate ideas.
• Partner closely with engineers and product teams to deliver polished, high-quality user experiences.
• Conduct lightweight user research, gather feedback, and use insights to improve product decisions.
• Support visual design needs across marketing materials, presentations, and brand assets when needed.

What We're Looking For

• Strong portfolio demonstrating shipped digital products with thoughtful user experiences.
• Experience building and maintaining design systems in close collaboration with engineering teams.
• Ability to independently own product features from concept through launch.
• Exceptional attention to typography, spacing, color, motion, and interaction design.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving priorities.
• Experience rapidly prototyping ideas using Figma and modern AI-assisted design tools.
• Strong user-centered design mindset with experience validating ideas through research and feedback.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and leadership.
• Solid understanding of accessibility best practices.

Nice to Have

• Experience designing AI-powered products or developer tools.
• Familiarity with generative AI, LLMs, or real-time interactive experiences.
• Frontend knowledge (React, TypeScript, HTML/CSS) to collaborate effectively with engineers.
• Motion design experience using Framer Motion, After Effects, or similar tools.
• Graphic design experience supporting brand and marketing initiatives.
