Context And Mission

The Creative Intelligence Lab works with industry and academia to develop software and applications that leverage the power of High-Performance Computing to solve real problems. In particular, a key role in the team focuses on data infrastructures that process, analyze, present, and store large volumes of streaming data.

The role of this position will be to help design and implement architecture, communication, storage, and computation infrastructures for these projects across the group, including the group cloud resources, internal apps, AI models and datasets, as well as interactive experiences in the realm of arts and entertainment industries. The person in this role will work with peers and senior team members.

Key Duties

  • Develop and deploy distributed storage and streaming processing software
  • Implement backend architectures based on the needs of storage, computation, and communication for each project
  • Maintain and manage the laboratory digital systems (cloud servers, workstations, external and internal apps)
  • Safeguard data and system security
  • Learn and transfer knowledge and technology to other projects in the group
  • Attend technical meetings, and produce reports and documentation of the structures managed.

Requirements

  • Education
    • MsC in Informatics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
    • Alternatively, a PhD in a related field with experience in Informatics, Computer Science, or Engineering
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Server-side programming languages: Python, Java, Node, or Scala (0-2 years)
    • Hands-on experience in backend development and system administration (1-3 years)
    • Knowledge and experience with cloud computing storage services and technologies (virtual machines, dockers), and in particular, the OpenStack platform (0-2 years)
    • Experience with online security best practices (0-2 years)
    • Experience with relational and non-relational databases (1-5 years)
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience with distributed computing and storage infrastructures (e.g. Spark, Hadoop) is a plus. (0-2 years)
    • We will value experience with applied Big Data and distributed computing projects and experience setting up data-processing projects in production (0-2 years)
    • Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish.
  • Competences
    • Strong initiative to work on a challenging multidisciplinary innovation project involving talking to people in many fields.
    • Good communication skills, especially in producing internal documentation (manuals, white papers).
Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the CASE Department
  • We offer a full-time contract (35h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 22 days of holidays + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
  • Starting date: 01/08/2026

Development of the recruitment process

The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:

  • Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position. - 40 points
  • Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.

The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women.

In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.

The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
