Job Description

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality software and creating great user experiences? Do you enjoy uncovering issues, improving processes, and collaborating with development teams to build reliable products?

BRE is looking for a QA Engineer to join our growing Software Development team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development of digital platforms that help organisations measure, report, and improve the sustainability credentials of construction projects and assets. You'll be joining at an important stage as we continue to strengthen our in-house quality assurance capability and reduce reliance on external providers.

About The Role

As a QA Engineer, you'll work closely with developers, product owners, product managers, designers, and business stakeholders to ensure our applications meet the highest standards of quality before they reach customers.

You'll be involved throughout the software development lifecycle, helping teams identify risks early, define effective test coverage, and deliver reliable, user-focused solutions. From manual and automated testing to API and exploratory testing, you'll contribute to the quality and success of a range of applications, including BRE's evolving BREEAM Platform.

This role offers the opportunity to influence quality practices, support continuous improvement, and make a visible impact on the way software is delivered across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, maintain, and execute manual and automated tests across a range of applications.
  • Create clear, structured, and maintainable test cases aligned to requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Conduct functional, regression, integration, API, exploratory, accessibility, and cross-browser testing.
  • Identify, document, prioritise, and retest defects, ensuring issues are communicated clearly and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with development and product teams to embed quality throughout the Agile delivery process.
  • Support risk-based testing approaches, focusing effort where it delivers the greatest value.
  • Contribute to improving test coverage, automation capabilities, and overall software delivery practices.
  • Help raise awareness of quality best practice and encourage shared ownership of quality across teams.

Essential Skills And Experience

  • Experience working in a Software Quality Assurance or QA Engineer role.
  • Hands-on experience with both manual and automated testing.
  • Experience using test management and delivery tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Ability to interpret requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, designs, and technical documentation to define effective test coverage.
  • Experience creating and maintaining detailed test cases, including traceability and supporting evidence.
  • Strong API testing experience, including validation of requests, responses, authentication, authorisation, status codes, and error handling.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams and sprint-based development environments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of Java, C#, or JavaScript for supporting test automation activities.
