GTR, a dynamic and growing Geotechnical Engineering and consulting firm with offices in North Chelmsford, MA, and Armonk, NY, is currently seeking a CAD Designer/Manager with 8+ years of experience to join our Massachusetts office.

At GTR, we offer opportunities to work on the most challenging, high-profile projects in the Heavy Civil, Infrastructure, Transportation, and Marine construction sectors, providing qualified candidates excellent avenues for professional growth and development. Our primary clients are Contractors, and we service their geotechnical and structural engineering, pile and shaft testing, and instrumentation and monitoring needs throughout the duration of the project. We perform design and analyses of, and not limited to, temporary earth retaining structures, trestles/work platforms, deep and shallow foundation design, marine structures, accelerated bridge construction, shoring, demolition and erection plans.

We are seeking someone with a strong understanding in CAD drafting who can help push our CAD capabilities forward. The candidate will be a technical lead and work with Principals and Staff engineers to complete projects on-time and on-budget. Responsibilities will include managing the drafting portion of projects to complete accurate and timely drawings, mentoring and overseeing the work of junior staff, developing and fine-tuning drawing standards including general drawing sheet standards and typical project details, and developing tools to streamline our drawings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Preparing complete plan sets from marked-up plans and/or verbal instruction within a project team that are submitted to the client and Owner/Engineer-of Record.
• Develop drawing standards including general drawing standards and typical project details.
• Mentor and train staff engineers and/or CAD technicians to gain the knowledge and experience to support their career and our growing business.
• Work with Principals to ensure successful and timely completion of projects and to maintain schedule of multiple concurrent projects.

• Work with Principals to expand GTR’s CAD capabilities to ensure we are keeping up with the latest CAD advancements, and industry standards.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in CAD drafting is required.
• Associates degree or higher in Science or Engineering technology field or Technical/Vocational certification
• Associate’s degree or higher in Drafting or CAD preferred. Additional training/certifications is a plus.
• Strong understanding/proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D required. Experience with Microstation, Revit and/or other BIM software is a plus.
• Understanding of construction drawings, structural details including steel, concrete, and timber details. Familiar with state and federal CAD requirements to develop compliant drawings.
• Professional attitude and self-motivation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, problem solving and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

• A valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation to the worksite is required
• Must be willing to work in the office to engage with co-workers and develop positive relationships. Occasional remote work is acceptable, such that the work is advanced efficiently and provided the ability to perform work is not hindered.
• All employees are responsible for conducting their work in a safe manner, both in the office and in the field.
