Engineering Manager - Fintech Backend Systems

About the Role

We are hiring on behalf of a fast-growing Kuwait-based fintech company seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering initiatives and help scale a high-performing engineering organization.

This role combines strong people leadership with deep technical expertise. You will lead engineering teams, drive technical strategy, collaborate closely with Product and Business stakeholders, and remain capable of making hands-on architectural decisions for business-critical systems.

We're looking for a leader who remains technically hands-on, enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, and is passionate about building and developing high-performing teams.

What You'll Do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 15+ software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, performance reviews, coaching sessions, and career development discussions.

• Partner with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to define and execute engineering roadmaps aligned with business objectives.

• Drive technical strategy and make architectural decisions for business-critical systems.

• Own engineering resource planning, team capacity planning, hiring, and organizational growth.

• Balance business priorities, technical debt, scalability, and long-term platform health.

• Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and modern software development processes.

• Collaborate closely with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to improve reliability, deployment processes, and operational excellence.

• Lead cross-functional initiatives across backend services supporting customer-facing mobile applications.

• Ensure platform security, scalability, availability, performance, and reliability.

• Drive continuous improvements in engineering productivity, software quality, and delivery excellence.

Required Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong hands-on background.

• Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams of 15+ software engineers.

• Strong people management experience, including mentoring, coaching, hiring, performance management, and career development.

• Maintains strong technical proficiency and is comfortable contributing to architecture discussions, code reviews, debugging complex production issues, and guiding engineering teams through hands-on technical challenges.

• Extensive experience building backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices Architecture.

• Deep hands-on expertise with AWS, including designing, deploying, and operating cloud-native applications.

• Strong experience designing and building distributed systems.

• Strong experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging patterns.

• Strong experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.

• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.

• Strong experience with observability platforms, including monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and production troubleshooting.

• Experience creating engineering roadmaps and translating business goals into technical execution.

• Experience with engineering resource planning, delivery planning, and execution management.

• Proven ability to make sound technical decisions for business-critical systems.

• Experience working on backend systems powering customer-facing mobile applications.

• Experience collaborating effectively with Product Managers, Designers, DevOps, and business stakeholders.

• Experience defining software architecture, engineering standards, and development best practices.

• Strong understanding of software design principles, scalability, security, reliability, and performance.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.

• Professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken).

• Experience driving AI adoption across engineering teams by introducing AI-powered development workflows, coding assistants, AI-assisted code reviews, testing automation, documentation generation, and engineering management processes.

• Experience establishing AI best practices and measuring their impact on engineering productivity, software quality, and team effectiveness.

• AWS certifications.
