About The Role

We are seeking a talented Junior Backend Software Developer to join our dynamic team supporting a high-visibility federal modernization program. This position is fully remote, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere while contributing to mission-critical government IT systems. The ideal candidate will support the modernization of legacy platforms, implement cloud-native microservices, and develop solutions that have a meaningful impact on national security and law enforcement operations. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, QA, Security, and Architecture, to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions.

This position requires at least a Secret Security Clearance and offers an excellent opportunity for growth within a collaborative environment. You will be involved in transforming existing systems, migrating functionalities to cloud environments such as AWS GovCloud, and leveraging cutting-edge technologies like Elasticsearch, Kubernetes, and event-driven architectures. Your work will directly support the modernization efforts of federal agencies, making a difference on a national scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience or Associate’s Degree with at least 5 years of experience
• Active Tier 3 Secret Security Clearance (or higher)
• Strong proficiency in Java and Object-Oriented Programming
• Experience developing microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native applications
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and automated deployment pipelines
• Proficiency in designing, developing, and operating solutions within AWS or other cloud platforms
• Experience with event-driven architectures, including Apache Kafka, Pub/Sub patterns, streaming, or event sourcing
• Familiarity with GitOps practices using tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, or ArgoCD
• Experience working within Agile frameworks, including participation in Scrum or SAFe ceremonies
• Knowledge of Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and maintain computer applications and specialized utility programs
• Create microservices within a cloud-native environment, primarily using AWS GovCloud and OpenShift platforms
• Operate and troubleshoot enterprise-scale production systems to ensure high availability and performance
• Analyze user needs and develop robust software solutions aligned with mission and business objectives
• Design and develop databases, coordinating with teams as necessary for integration and optimization
• Apply principles of computer science, engineering, and distributed system design to develop scalable solutions
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring junior developers to promote engineering excellence
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, Security, and Architecture to deliver integrated solutions
• Support migration of legacy system functionalities to cloud environments, including transitioning investigative search capabilities to Elasticsearch
• Implement full-stack components, supporting user interface layers with modern JavaScript frameworks
• Contribute to the development of event-driven architectures and high-throughput data processing systems
