We're representing an exceptionally well-funded technology company that is transforming how financial institutions deliver digital investment and wealth management services across the Middle East.

With rapid growth, ambitious expansion plans and a modern engineering culture, they're looking to appoint a Principal Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture of their enterprise platform.

This is not a people management position. It's an opportunity for a seasoned technologist who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, influencing technical direction, and remaining hands-on with code.

As a Principal Engineer, you'll sit at the heart of engineering, working across multiple product teams to define architectural standards, guide technical decision-making and solve the organisation's most challenging problems. You'll collaborate closely with enterprise customers, helping design secure, scalable integration solutions while ensuring the platform continues to evolve as a highly modular, cloud-native product. From designing distributed systems and event-driven architectures to leading architecture reviews with senior client stakeholders, you'll be trusted to make decisions that have a lasting impact across both the product and its implementations.

What You'll Be Doing

• Defining technical architecture across a large-scale SaaS platform serving enterprise financial institutions.
• Leading the design of complex integrations with banking systems, trading platforms, custodians and third-party services.
• Driving engineering best practice across microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture and distributed systems.
• Partnering directly with client engineering teams, enterprise architects and technology leaders during solution design and implementation.
• Providing technical leadership during critical production incidents and complex integration challenges.

• Setting engineering standards around service ownership, domain modelling, API design and platform scalability.
• Helping shape the adoption of AI-assisted software engineering and modern development practices.
• Coaching senior engineers through architecture reviews, design sessions and technical mentorship.

What We're Looking For

You'll bring extensive experience designing and building large-scale backend platforms within complex enterprise environments.

• 12+ years of commercial software engineering experience.
• Operated at Staff, Principal or Lead Engineer level across multiple teams or products.

• Deep expertise in distributed systems, microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Strong backend development skills in technologies such as TypeScript, Node.js, Java, Go or similar.
• Experience designing secure, resilient APIs and enterprise integration patterns.
• A track record of influencing technical strategy while remaining hands-on with implementation.
• The ability to communicate confidently with senior technical stakeholders, customers and executive teams.

Desirable Experience

While not essential, experience within financial services, fintech or capital markets would be highly valued, particularly around investment platforms, wealth management, trading systems or banking technology. Exposure to technologies such as CQRS, Event Sourcing, workflow orchestration, streaming platforms or cloud-native architecture would also be advantageous.
