Senior Software Engineer (Sensors) - Android SDK / C++ / Python

Our client is a global leader in semiconductor and mobile technology, and they are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join their Sensors Technology group at their Cork (Ireland) site. This is a permanent, onsite role.

The role:

You will work across the full product lifecycle, from R&D through to commercial deployment, developing software that supports advanced sensor technologies used in smartphones, wearables, smart glasses, and IoT devices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams globally and contribute to data processing pipelines, Android application development, and internal tooling.

Key responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and test Android applications for sensor data collection and feature demonstration
• Build cross-platform desktop tools (Windows and Linux) that interact with Android devices, supporting device control, data validation, visualisation, and post-processing
• Develop Java-based software components following industry-standard design patterns
• Contribute to end-to-end data processing pipeline design and production monitoring
• Support global internal data collection campaigns and customer triage activities

Required skills and experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• 2+ years of software engineering experience
• Hands-on Android application development using the Android SDK
• Strong object-oriented programming in Java or Kotlin
• Proficiency in C++ and Python for system-level tooling
• Fluency with Git and GitHub
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills

Nice to have skills:

• Master's degree in a relevant discipline
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Familiarity with Android Enterprise, MDM, or MAM concepts
• Experience with React Native or desktop GUI development
• Exposure to Android Wear / Wear OS or Android XR
