Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The selected candidate may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located in the southern portion of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, including the Saginaw area and surrounding communities. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned service center or be willing to relocate. A relocation package is available for eligible candidates.
General Summary Of Job Responsibilities
The Startup, Testing, and Commissioning – EPM Technical/Procedure Writer and Trainer is assigned to projects and provides the department’s clients with high-quality project oversight, training support, and technical writing skills. Guidance and oversight will be provided for the development and/or revision of all Operating Procedures, Alarm Response Procedures, and required Maintenance Procedures, along with training needs and content, development of training materials and schedules, and presentation needs affected by the assigned projects.
The Sr. Commissioning Analyst applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering/commissioning principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields; makes decisions independently on engineering/commissioning problems and methods; and represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions. This role requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of their field and related sciences and disciplines.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Support the project with design, reviews, troubleshooting, and other expertise throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and manage budgets, schedules, test plans or packages, technical/operational procedures, user training, quality plans, and/or other required documents for recordkeeping.
- Plan and coordinate between various groups, such as Operations, Maintenance, and/or vendors, for startup and commissioning activities, training activities, documentation activities, and/or procedure creation/reviews.
- Perform or understand hydrostatic, pneumatic, and other mechanical testing and operation.
- Mentor employees and/or lead the work of project teams, as needed.
- Read and understand electrical and mechanical prints, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and P&IDs, and update them to reflect the as-built condition.
- Play an active role in developing schedules with moderate to large budgetary responsibility or impact, in both size and scope, for all assigned projects, while identifying and minimizing potential risks to the timeline and budget.
- Become familiar with plans, specifications, procedures, and related materials for each project, and follow company-established standard procedures for file structure and standard drawing protocols.
- Coordinate equipment commissioning/training with plant resources and schedule all vendor-supported startup training for newly installed or modified equipment.
- Develop design validation and project turnover packages for EPM projects involving mechanical and electrical equipment, electronic devices, tools, plants, facilities, and systems, while applying the principles of motion, energy, force, and materials.
- May have supervisory oversight responsibility for exempt and non-exempt employees and/or technical work groups performing checkout and startup on newly installed or modified equipment and systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.
- Oversee and/or create testing/commissioning planning, implementation, quality control, scheduling, budgeting, and status reporting for a given construction project or group of projects, ensuring standard practices are utilized.

- Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering/commissioning theory to solve complex problems.

- Strong understanding of testing standards (IEEE, NETA, etc.), methods, and application.

- (OR) Associate’s degree with six (6) years of experience reading electrical schematics and diagrams; performing/managing instruments and electrical components; performing mechanical testing; experience or exposure to the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E; knowledge of OSHA 10 and 30 and safe work behaviors and practices; NERC standards and compliance; and MPSC Gas Code.
- (OR) High School Diploma/GED with eight (8) years of experience reading electrical schematics and diagrams; performing/managing instruments and electrical components; performing mechanical testing; experience or exposure to the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E; knowledge of OSHA 10 and 30 and safe work behaviors and practices; NERC standards and compliance; and MPSC Gas Code.
- Minimum of 30% travel to specific job sites, including electrical generation, gas compression, gas storage, and other construction sites, as required.
- Indoor and outdoor work, hazards typical of electrical and natural gas sites, working at heights, high/low humidity and temperatures, wet/icy/uneven ground, and other typical construction site conditions.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently lift and move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and move upwards of fifty pounds.
- Vision capabilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to work some weekends, holidays, and overtime and support 24/7 on-call responsibilities to meet project needs.
