Founding Engineer - AI Infrastructure

Salary: $160K – $260K base + equity

Location: Manhattan, New York City 5 days in-office | Relocation supported

Every company relies on systems of record like CRMs, ERPs, and internal databases to run sales, reporting, operations, and decision-making. But the data inside those systems is often fragmented, duplicated, incomplete, or wrong. As AI tools and agents start writing into these systems directly, the problem is only getting worse.

This company is solving that by restructuring and linking business data into a company graph that agents can operate on reliably. From there, their agent system autonomously cleans data, powers governed workflows, and gives teams secure human-in-the-loop control over critical business information.

The company recently raised $4.5M in pre-seed funding and already has design partners using the product daily. As a Founding Engineer, you will work directly with the founders on product vision and implementation, talk to customers, understand their data problems, and ship the core product that turns those problems into reliable infrastructure.

What you will do

• Build the core product end to end, from design through production, shipping features that directly solve customer problems
• Talk directly to design partners, understand their data challenges, document requirements, and validate solutions through fast iteration
• Build backend systems and infrastructure that power the agent system and data-reliability platform
• Design and implement the data restructuring and linking logic that creates the company graph agents operate on
• Use customer feedback, usage patterns, and product intuition to influence what gets built next
• Ship reliable production code for systems that handle sensitive business data and require high correctness

The ideal candidate

• 1 to 5 years of experience, or an exceptional new grad from a top school such as Waterloo or a top US university, with clear evidence of raw intelligence, ambition, and fast learning
• Full-stack leaning backend engineer with backend depth, product intuition, and a track record of shipping production code or meaningful projects end to end
• AI-native builder who uses tools like Claude, Cursor, or similar systems daily and stays close to what is newly possible with AI-assisted development
• Comfortable with ambiguity, direct customer conversations, changing requirements, and translating messy business problems into working software
• Strong signal from one or more of the following: founding engineer experience, startup experience, side projects used by real users, top technical school, high-bar companies, or experience with data pipelines and systems design

This role is probably not for you if

• You are looking for a clearly scoped engineering role with stable tickets and limited customer contact
• You want a mostly frontend role or a pure research role
