About The Role

We are seeking a talented Junior Backend Software Developer to join our dynamic team supporting a high-visibility federal modernization program. This role is fully remote, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work on impactful projects that modernize legacy platforms, integrate cutting-edge cloud technologies, and improve government IT systems. As a Junior Backend Developer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, modify, and maintain software applications and microservices within a cloud-native environment, primarily utilizing AWS GovCloud. This position provides a unique chance to contribute to mission-critical systems, enhance analytical capabilities, and support the modernization of large-scale government infrastructure. Candidates must possess at least a Secret Security Clearance and demonstrate a strong foundation in backend development, cloud computing, and microservices architecture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience or Associate’s Degree with at least 5 years of experience
• Active Tier 3 Secret Security Clearance (or higher)
• Proficiency in Java and Object-Oriented Programming principles
• Experience developing microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native applications
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and automated deployment pipelines
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms, including designing, deploying, and operating cloud solutions
• Experience with event-driven architectures, including Apache Kafka, Pub/Sub patterns, or streaming technologies
• Knowledge of GitOps practices utilizing tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, or ArgoCD
• Experience working within Agile frameworks, including Scrum or SAFe methodologies
• Familiarity with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket

Responsibilities

• Develop, create, and modify software applications and specialized utility programs to support mission-critical systems
• Design and develop microservices within a cloud-native environment, primarily utilizing AWS GovCloud and OpenShift platforms
• Operate and monitor enterprise-scale production systems, troubleshooting and resolving system issues promptly
• Analyze user needs and develop robust software solutions aligned with organizational and mission objectives
• Design, develop, and maintain databases within application areas, collaborating with team members as needed
• Apply principles of computer science, engineering, and distributed system design to develop scalable solutions
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring junior developers to promote engineering excellence
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, Security, Product, and Architecture to ensure seamless integration and deployment
• Support migration efforts from legacy mainframe systems to cloud-based environments, including transitioning investigative search capabilities to Elasticsearch or similar technologies
• Build and deploy new microservices following scalable, cloud-native patterns and best practices
• Implement full-stack components supporting UI integration layers using modern JavaScript frameworks where applicable
• Support integration with event-driven architectures and high-throughput data processing systems, ensuring reliability and performance
