Job Description
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides commercial advice where the answer is not obvious. We work with leadership teams to peel back the layers of strategy talk and look at the actual economics of a business. Our team is skeptical by nature. We look at pricing architectures, capital allocation, and fixed cost structures to find where value is leaking or where capital is trapped. We believe that most commercial questions arrive wrapped in language that obscures the real choices. Our job is to surface what the numbers are hiding and test whether assumptions actually hold under pressure.
A common problem our clients face is that critical business data is often trapped in spreadsheets that are too complex to be useful or dashboards that prioritize style over clarity. When logic is buried, decision making suffers. We are hiring a Junior JavaScript Developer to help us solve this by building lean, functional tools that translate complex economic models into clear, interactive interfaces. This role exists to bridge the gap between our analytical findings and the practical tools our clients use to manage their risks.
The Role
Working as a Junior JavaScript Developer at Blue Oak Consulting means writing code that helps people see the truth of their business operations. You will support our consultants by turning their financial and operational models into browser based applications. Your day to day work involves:
- Developing and maintaining frontend interfaces for internal data analysis tools.
- Writing clean, modular JavaScript to handle calculations and data manipulation on the client side.
- Building interactive data visualizations that allow users to stress test different business scenarios.
- Translating logic from financial models into functional code that remains performant even with large datasets.
- Collaborating with our consulting team to ensure the technical output accurately reflects the economic variables we are measuring.
- Fixing bugs and improving the usability of existing internal tools to ensure they are reliable during high stakes meetings.

This is an entry level role. We are looking for someone who values logic and accuracy over visual flair. We need someone who is comfortable admitting what they do not know and who is willing to learn our specific approach to business logic. You should bring the following:
- A solid foundation in JavaScript (ES6+), including a good understanding of how to manipulate data structures like arrays and objects.
- Foundational knowledge of HTML and CSS, focusing on building clean and functional layouts.
- Exposure to at least one modern framework like React, Vue, or Svelte, though we value strong vanilla JavaScript skills most.
- A logical approach to problem solving and the ability to follow a complex set of instructions or commercial rules.
- Clear, direct communication skills. You need to be able to explain why a certain technical approach works or why a piece of logic might be failing.
- An interest in how businesses actually work and a healthy skepticism toward complicated explanations.
- The ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while maintaining high standards for the code you produce.

Success at Blue Oak Consulting depends on an appetite for rigor. We do not just deliver slide decks and walk away. We help clients understand the downside risks and make decisions that make sense even if the base case fails. The developers who do well here are those who care more about the correctness of the data than the animation of the menu. You will thrive if you prefer plain speaking over corporate jargon and if you enjoy the process of proving an assumption wrong through code. We value people who are disciplined, focused on the variables that drive outcomes, and who take pride in building tools that are reliable under pressure.
What We Offer
- A fully remote working environment that prioritizes clear results over fixed hours or office presence.
- The opportunity to work on high stakes commercial problems and learn how businesses are built and managed.
- Direct mentorship from experienced consultants and developers who value clear thinking and technical precision.
- A professional culture that avoids unnecessary meetings and respects your time for focused work.
- A learning budget to help you expand your technical skills in areas that benefit our analytical capabilities.
- A straightforward, permanent full time role within a firm that values truth over momentum.
