Project Engineer (Infrastructure & Networking | MSP Environment)

Schedule: 8am–5pm or 9am–6pm EST

Employment Type: Starts as an independent contractor role, with a clear pathway to full-time EoR employment after 6 months (based on performance and mutual fit)

Salary Range: $3,500 - $5,500 per month

Overview

We’re looking for a Project Engineer to lead and execute infrastructure implementations across client environments. This role is focused on planned, project-based work - from migrations to full infrastructure rollouts.

You’ll be responsible for designing, planning, and delivering solutions with minimal disruption to business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute infrastructure and network projects, including:
• Data center upgrades
• Network implementations (switches, firewalls, etc.)
• Cloud migrations and system rollouts
• Develop implementation plans, timelines, and risk mitigation strategies
• Analyze client environments to ensure compatibility and scalability
• Coordinate with internal teams and stakeholders to execute projects smoothly
• Ensure minimal downtime during deployments (or schedule strategically when needed)

• Perform post-implementation validation, testing, and handoff to support teams
• Maintain clear documentation of configurations and deployment processes

• You collaborate well but can also operate independently

Required Experience & Skills

• Strong experience in an MSP environment (non-negotiable)
• Deep expertise in:
• Networking (core focus)
• Data center infrastructure
• Proven experience working with clients or organizations based in the USA and/or UK (must-have)
• Background supporting mid-market to enterprise-level environments with complex infrastructure
• Strong documentation skills, with the ability to produce detailed, accurate, and process-driven technical records

Experience executing:

• Infrastructure rollouts
• Migrations (cloud/on-prem)
• System upgrades
• Strong understanding of:
• Change management
• Infrastructure dependencies
• Client environment analysis
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and timelines

Nice to Have

• Exposure to enterprise or mid-market environments
• Experience working across hybrid cloud environments

Work Setup & Expectations

• Schedule: Flexible within EST alignment (8–5 / 9–6 baseline)
• May require off-hours work (deployments during client downtime)
• Fully remote (South Africa-based)
