About The Role

The DevOps Engineer at Spear AI will play a critical role in developing and maintaining the infrastructure and automation processes for the embedded software team working on specialized hardware platforms. This position involves designing and implementing best practices for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), deployment, provisioning, and configuration management using cloud-based infrastructure. The role requires close collaboration with both the embedded software team and the broader hardware development team, reporting to the VP of Software while being co-located with the hardware engineers in Falmouth, MA. The engineer will also serve as an informal liaison, translating system requirements into actionable software tasks and architecture, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring seamless integration of hardware and software systems. Additionally, this role involves active participation in at-sea buoy deployments, recovery operations, and testing, requiring hands-on fieldwork several times a year. The successful candidate will be passionate about building robust, scalable infrastructure and enjoy working in a multidisciplinary environment that directly supports national security operations.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with hardware interactions in a software engineering role
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Pulumi or Terraform
  • Proficiency in Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, particularly with GitHub Actions
  • Knowledge of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing methodologies
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS or similar services
  • Strong programming skills in Python or TypeScript
  • Solid understanding of networking principles and protocols
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity compliance frameworks like CMMC, PCI, or SOC
  • Experience deploying and operating in air-gapped environments
  • Ability to self-host on bare metal servers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working within a Linux environment
