SKILLS REQUIRED

Primary (Must-Have):

• 14+ years of extensive enterprise experience in software engineering, specializing in Java development

• Expert-level proficiency in Spring Boot framework and high-scale Microservices architecture

• Deep, hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, including performance tuning and advanced query optimization

• Proven specialization in GeoSpatial Search, location intelligence, and processing complex spatial datasets

• Strong backend experience implementing and maintaining Elastic Cloud Storage solutions

Secondary (Good to Have):

• Experience configuring data models for both vector and raster geospatial content

• Familiarity with enterprise security protocols, encryption standards, and access controls for sensitive data

• Solid experience in writing automated test suites and creating proactive monitoring/alerting systems for microservices

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for an Elite Senior Java/Elastic Developer with 14 years of engineering experience to join a business-critical initiative for Optum. This fully remote position focuses heavily on designing, building, and optimizing highly scalable Java microservices and Spring Boot APIs that integrate deeply with Elasticsearch. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical anchor, utilizing specialized knowledge in GeoSpatial Search and Elastic Cloud Storage to ingest, model, and retrieve massive volumes of location-based and spatial datasets with ultra-low latency.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, implement, and maintain highly scalable, modular Java microservices and Spring Boot APIs capable of processing complex geospatial datasets for responsive mapping applications.

• Optimize enterprise-level data ingestion, storage access patterns, and indexing strategies within Elastic DB to deliver low-latency retrieval of large-scale spatial and non-spatial data.

• Build, configure, and refine robust backend data models tailored for vector and raster geospatial content to directly improve map rendering and analytical accuracy.

• Translate complex location intelligence and business criteria into rock-solid technical specifications, service contracts, and data flow documentation.

• Lead comprehensive performance-tuning initiatives covering Java source code, complex database queries, and cloud storage infrastructure to boost throughput and reduce footprint costs.

• Collaborate with security and compliance stakeholders to seamlessly apply data encryption, strict access controls, and comprehensive auditing mechanisms.

• Conduct technical code reviews and provide expert guidance to engineering peers regarding microservices design patterns, Spring Boot configurations, and Elasticsearch best practices.

• Architect automated test suites, quality checks, and production monitoring/alerting systems to proactively track microservice health, cloud storage behavior, and data integrity.
