Job Description
We build ShiftForce, a scheduling and operations platform used by thousands of restaurants. Small team โ your work ships, your decisions matter, and you'll have real impact from week one.
**What you'll actually do**
Work against a real backlog. Pick up a ticket, ask the questions you need answered, then build and ship it. We need someone who can take "users need a way to bulk-edit shifts" and turn it into working, tested code without a PM holding their hand through every decision. If you hit a weird SQL deadlock or an Azure Function that won't fire, we expect you to dig in and figure it out โ not wait for someone to unblock you.
This is a small team, so you'll wear a lot of hats. Some weeks are pure feature work. Other weeks you might be debugging a broken deployment pipeline, tuning a slow query in production, or thinking through an infrastructure change. If "that's not my job" is in your vocabulary, we're not the right fit. If you like that variety, you'll love it here.
**Stack**
- C# / .NET Core 10 (and some legacy .NET Framework we're migrating)

- React, Next.js, TypeScript, plain CSS
- SQL Server and PostgreSQL โ you should be comfortable writing real queries, not just ORM calls
- Azure: Functions, App Service, Key Vault, DevOps pipelines
- React Native / Expo for the mobile app
**Who we're looking for**
- Self-directed. We tell you the problem, you figure out the solution and ask when you're stuck.
- Comfortable wearing many hats โ code, infra, debugging, customer issues, whatever the week needs.
- Builds what was asked for. If you find yourself adding a framework, a new service, or a "better" abstraction that wasn't in the ticket, you stop and ask first.
- Strong problem-solver. Reads stack traces, writes a repro, checks the logs before guessing.
- Fluent with AI tooling. We use Cursor and Claude daily. If you're still copy-pasting into ChatGPT one question at a time, you'll fall behind.

- 3+ years shipping production code on a stack that overlaps meaningfully with ours.
**Logistics**
- 100% remote, US-based
- Full-time
- Slight preference for Las Vegas or Kansas City area for occasional in-person, but not required
**To apply**
Send a short note about a hard bug you debugged recently โ what was broken, how you found it, how you fixed it. That tells us more than a resume. Email justinb@shiftforce.com or apply through LinkedIn.
