Junior Software Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

Careerscape is supporting a client opening for a Remote Junior Software Engineer. This role will support software development, application maintenance, and technical projects for a growing U.S.-based organization.

This is an entry-level opportunity designed for candidates looking to start or grow their career in software engineering. You will work alongside experienced engineers to build, test, and maintain applications while learning best practices in coding, development workflows, and system design.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $100,000 per year, based on experience, technical skills, and client hiring needs.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Assist in developing, testing, and maintaining software applications

- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code

- Collaborate with engineers, product teams, and designers

- Debug issues and support troubleshooting efforts

- Participate in code reviews and team discussions

- Support deployment, updates, and system improvements

- Work with databases, APIs, and backend services

- Follow development best practices and coding standards

- Maintain documentation for code and systems

- Learn new technologies, tools, and development processes

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field preferred

- 0–2 years of experience (internships, projects, or coursework acceptable)

- Basic knowledge of programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, or similar

- Understanding of web development fundamentals (HTML, CSS, APIs)

- Familiarity with version control tools like Git

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

- Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment

- Ability to work independently in a remote setting

- Strong communication and collaboration skills

- Attention to detail and coding accuracy

NICE TO HAVE

- Internship or project experience in software development

- Familiarity with frameworks such as React, Node.js, or similar

- Basic understanding of databases (SQL or NoSQL)

- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)

- Experience with Agile or Scrum environments

- GitHub portfolio or personal coding projects
