A well-backed cleantech company operating in US wholesale electricity markets is looking for a Head of Optimization to lead their growing Data Science team. The business uses ML and AI to automate and optimize battery storage and renewable energy assets, helping project owners maximize performance and economics in live market conditions.

This is a meaningful role with real ownership. You'll be developing and refining the algorithms that drive how assets perform across complex, high-value markets, and taking direct responsibility for outcomes.

What you'll be doing

• Building optimization, forecasting, and control algorithms for battery and renewable projects
• Taking ownership of algorithm performance across a live portfolio of operated assets
• Staying current on wholesale market rules and translating new developments into product improvements
• Analyzing market data and asset performance to identify new features and methods that move the needle

What we're looking for

• 5+ years building mixed-integer linear and/or nonlinear optimization models applied to real-world, high-dimensionality problems

• Proficient Python developer with solid software engineering standards
• Clear communicator who can translate complex technical work for a broader audience

Nice to have

• PhD in operations research, electrical engineering, computer science, economics, or a related quantitative field
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, and agile workflows
• SQL database experience
• Dashboard and visualization tooling experience
