Senior SD-WAN Architect / Technical Lead

Contract: 12 months (subject to extension).

Location: Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Your Profile & DNA:

We are seeking an experienced SD-WAN Architect / Technical Lead to drive the architectural vision, engineering execution, and continuous evolution of the global SD-WAN environment. This role will lead the transformation from traditional WAN routing to a modern software-defined WAN architecture, overseeing the full lifecycle from solution design and Proof of Concept (POC) through enterprise-scale deployment and optimization.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela), strong routing and automation capabilities, and proven experience leading complex network transformation initiatives in large-scale enterprise environments.

Roles & Responsibilities

SD-WAN Architecture & Design

• Architect scalable, resilient, and secure Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela) solutions.
• Design SD-WAN fabrics with transport independence, segmentation, application-aware routing, and integrated security.
• Define WAN modernization strategies aligned with enterprise connectivity and cloud transformation goals.

Engineering Leadership

• Lead and mentor engineering teams responsible for SD-WAN deployment and operations.
• Oversee implementation and lifecycle management of Cisco SD-WAN controllers including:
• vManage
• vBond
• vSmart
• Guide deployment and onboarding of vEdge/cEdge devices across global sites.

Proof of Concept (POC) & Innovation

• Lead technical evaluations and POCs for emerging SD-WAN capabilities and enhancements.
• Evaluate and validate features such as:
• Cloud OnRamp for SaaS/IaaS
• Advanced application-aware routing
• Secure direct internet access

• WAN optimization capabilities

Lifecycle & Continuous Engineering

• Drive continuous improvements across the SD-WAN fabric to optimize:
• Performance
• Availability
• Security
• Low-latency application delivery
• Support capacity planning, architecture reviews, and technology refresh initiatives.

NetDevOps & Automation

• Design and implement automation frameworks for SD-WAN provisioning and operations.
• Develop automation solutions using:
• vManage REST APIs
• Python
• Terraform
• Ansible
• Enable Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) and automated policy deployment.

Technical Governance

• Establish and enforce enterprise standards for:
• Configuration templates
• Centralized and localized policies
• Security controls
• Operational procedures
• Maintain architectural governance and best practices across the global SD-WAN environment.

Qualification & Experience

• A Bachelor's or Master's Degree or equivalent.
• 10+ years of enterprise networking experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on Cisco SD-WAN architecture and engineering experience preferred.

Cisco SD-WAN Expertise

• Expert-level experience with Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela) architecture and operations.
• Strong understanding of:
• Overlay Management Protocol (OMP)
• Control and data plane orchestration
• Policy-based routing
• Segmentation and VPN design

Routing & Switching

• Advanced knowledge of enterprise networking protocols including:
• BGP
• OSPF
• EIGRP
• IPSec VPNs
• Experience with hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud connectivity architectures.

SD-WAN Migration & POC Experience

• Proven track record leading enterprise-scale SD-WAN migrations.
• Experience conducting technical evaluations and POCs within lab/dev environments.

Automation & APIs

• Strong hands-on experience with:
• REST APIs
• Python scripting
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
