The Automotive Industries Association of Canada (AIA Canada) represents, supports and leads innovation in Canada's $43.9 billion auto care sector. With thousands of members across the country, our vision, research, training programs and advocacy supports Canada’s collision and mechanical sectors. Our best practices for the auto care industry help our members keep Canada’s fleet of almost 26.6 million vehicles on the road.

Reports directly to the President and CEO


Supervisory Responsibilities: Includes the direct supervision of the communications and events teams.


Purpose of Position 

Responsible for leading the development and execution of integrated internal and external marketing, communications, and engagement strategies that support AIA Canada’s vision, mission, values, and business plans. Provides strategic marketing and communications expertise through the development of plans, campaigns, and materials that enhance the association’s profile and impact. This role is multi-dimensional, incorporating digital strategy, marketing, media relations, events, and strategic communications, and requires a high level of clarity, professionalism, and attention to detail to effectively support organizational goals.


Job Responsibilities 

  • Lead the strategy and execution of integrated marketing, communications, and events initiatives in support of organizational priorities 
  • Develop and drive omni-channel marketing campaigns to promote key products, programs, and events
  • Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to the team, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and innovative culture
  • Establish KPIs and leverage analytics to measure performance, generate insights, and optimize marketing effectiveness
  • Oversee the hiring and management of freelancers, agencies, and other external partners to support initiatives; includes relationship management with business partners and key media partners
  • Oversee budgets across marketing, communications, and events portfolios
  • Develop briefing materials and presentations for the Board of Directors and key meetings as required
  • Set event strategy and oversee planning and execution through direct management of the Events Manager
  • Integrate events into broader marketing and audience engagement strategies across digital and in-person channels
  • Identify and advance opportunities to enhance audience engagement and brand reach 
  • Develop and execute the organization’s sponsorship strategy, including sponsorship acquisition, retention, and value delivery
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Keeps things simple while driving innovation, removing blockages and anticipates and adapts to changing environments
  • Manages the quality of own data input into the association’s management system (CRM) and proactively helps identify risks and issues


Staff Management Accountabilities 

  • Manages and develops staff and interns/volunteers, administers performance reviews as well as other HR related tasks
  • Coordinates the work of staff to identify and resolve problems
  • Assigns work activities, projects, and programs
  • Monitors and review’s teams’ workflows/SOP’s to ensure operational effectiveness, risk mitigation, and alignment with organizational strategy, governance standards, and cross-functional execution requirements.



Knowledge and Experience 

  • College/University degree or professional designation in marketing, communications, or a related field. 
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in leadership and managerial positions.
  • Extensive experience in marketing, communications, and event management, with a demonstrated ability to leverage digital marketing tools, CRM systems, analytics platforms, and modern omni-channel engagement strategies
  • Program and budget management experience, preferably within a not-for-profit environment
  • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, initiate, prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to operate independently while maintaining strong collaboration across teams, with a focus on proactive communication and relationship building with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work with limited supervision as well as to demonstrate active listening and have a strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all written communications, reports, and event/project tracking
  • Experience working with CRM software and/or project management tools
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with proven ability to develop execute, and optimize strategic omni-channel marketing and communications campaigns using data-driven insights.
  • Knowledge of or experience with the automotive collision sector or in a member-based not-for-profit association is an asset
  • Bilingualism (Canadian French and English) is required


Working Conditions

  • This is a predominantly remote position based out of a home office
  • Moderate travel required

We are working remotely and are happy to consider candidates who are located outside of Ottawa with a preference to be fully remote in Ontario. Please note: some travel may be required throughout the year.


Salary range: $88,600 - $100,000
