Job Description
UX Designer (Part-Time Contract)
Save Cantonese is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to preserving the Cantonese language and the communities that carry it. Everything we do is rooted in care for culture, family, and the people working hard to keep Cantonese alive for the next generation. We are powered largely by volunteers who believe in this mission, and we're genuinely excited to be in a position to bring on paid contributors for the first time.
We recently completed a full rebuild of our website, and we're looking for a UX designer to think through it with us and help make sure it truly works for the people we care about reaching.
What we're working on together
Our two core goals are (1) getting people to sign up to volunteer, and (2) connecting with donors, both individuals and institutions, who want to support the cause. The site is built and the content is there. What we're hoping to figure out, with the right person, is whether the experience actually makes it easy for visitors to take those steps, and what we should prioritize when it doesn't.
We'd love someone who can come in with a fresh perspective, walk through the site, and help us see what we're too close to notice. From there, we'd work through findings together each week, talk through what matters most, and make decisions as a team.
We'll be honest: we're not looking for someone to just hand us a report. We're looking for a thinking partner who can help guide the conversation, bring structure when we need it, and keep us moving in the right direction. We'll show up with context and questions. We're hoping you'll bring the expertise and the framework.

The work itself will be practical: annotated user flows, audit findings, prioritized recommendations. Things we can actually act on.
A few things worth knowing upfront
This isn't a redesign. The visual direction for website 2.0 is set and we're happy with it. We're improving, not starting over. The site is also trilingual in English, Cantonese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese, so multilingual UX experience is a genuine plus, though not a requirement.
What we're hoping to find
- 3 to 5 years of UX experience, particularly with site audits or conversion-focused work
- Someone who communicates clearly in writing and is comfortable working async with a distributed team
- Bonus: experience with nonprofits, cultural organizations, or community-facing products
- Bonus: familiarity with accessibility best practices (WCAG)

The details
