Backend WordPress Developer

Excel Nearshore is looking for a Backend WordPress Developer to support a website refresh initiative for a U.S.-based company in the medical device design and manufacturing industry. This role will focus on building and configuring the backend structure of a WordPress site, ensuring scalability, performance, and clean implementation of custom themes and functionality.

You will be responsible for translating design and functional requirements into a robust WordPress architecture, supporting a responsive build and ensuring the site meets performance and SEO standards. This is a hands-on role suited for someone with strong experience in WordPress development and customization. This is a fully remote opportunity based in Costa Rica, with an expected duration of 8–10 weeks.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and customize WordPress themes aligned with the new design and content structure
• Build and configure backend functionality to support site structure and content management

• Ensure responsive behavior and proper integration with front-end components
• Optimize website performance, loading speed, and SEO fundamentals
• Configure CMS functionality to support easy content updates by internal teams
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during development and deployment
• Collaborate with designers and front-end developers to ensure accurate implementation

Requirements

• Strong experience with WordPress development, including custom theme development
• Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience with responsive design implementation
• Understanding of website performance optimization and SEO best practices
• Experience working on website rebuilds or refresh projects
• Ability to work independently and meet tight project timelines
