LumiStrain is a Houston-based deep-tech startup and Rice University spinout developing the next-generation non-contact optical strain sensing technology for structural testing and health monitoring applications. Our Strain Sensing Smart Skin (S4) uses carbon nanotube(CNT)-based sensing films and optical imaging to provide fast, high-resolution, full-field 2D strain measurements. We are an early-stage, mission-driven team working at the intersection of advanced materials, optics, experimental mechanics, and structural engineering. Our goal is to make structure safer, smarter and easier to maintain through better sensing technology.
Role Description
We are seeking a full-time Research and Development (R&D) Test Engineer to join our team on-site in Houston, TX to support the development of LumiStrain's S4 strain sensing system.
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare CNT-based sensing films
- Assist in prototype fabrication and system integration
- Conduct laboratory experiments for strain measurement and calibration
- Collect, organize, and document experimental data
- Support testing on different materials
- Maintain lab equipment
- Contribute to iterative improvements of product development
- Support CEO and CTO on additional technical and operational activities as needed

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field
