Job Title: System Engineer IV

Location: On-site, Portsmouth, NH. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families, if needed.

Type: Full Time


Our client is looking for a Systems Engineer (Level 4) to support and enhance mission‑critical infrastructure for production and laboratory environments. This role focuses on maintaining and optimizing systems that support automation, quality control, and operational platforms in a high‑availability setting.


Role Overview

This position plays a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of infrastructure systems supporting manufacturing and laboratory operations. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and experience working in regulated or high‑availability environments.


Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Systems Support

  • Provide technical support for servers, networks, storage, workstations, and client devices supporting operational systems.
  • Ensure system performance, integrity, and security through proactive monitoring and maintenance.

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across infrastructure and application layers.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

Validation & Documentation

  • Develop and execute system validation and commissioning protocols (installation, operational testing, etc.).
  • Maintain and update system documentation, including procedures, specifications, and work instructions.

Change Management & Compliance

  • Manage and execute change requests within established control processes.
  • Support quality and compliance initiatives, including updates driven by process improvements or regulatory requirements.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with operations, quality, and engineering teams to support system enhancements and reliability improvements.
  • Identify opportunities for performance optimization and security improvements.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of experience supporting IT systems in high-availability production or laboratory environments.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience in regulated industries such as biotech or pharmaceuticals.
  • Hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting manufacturing execution or lab systems.
  • Experience with system documentation, interface design, and data integration.


Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix).
  • Experience with networking fundamentals, switching, and monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server and data systems integration.
  • Familiarity with scripting or programming (e.g., SQL, .NET, VBScript).
  • Experience with backup and recovery tools and system deployment technologies.
